It's mostly for if you don't do intensive graphics, don't game or just want it as a backup graphics solution. That was my original reason to go for a Z68. I'm wondering if I should just save up for a low power ATI or Nvidia solution, though.

The Z68 boards still seem a bit expensive and there's not as many as P67 boards. Not sure yet, though.

Also, not all the Z68 boards have the integrated graphics output.
you might have been better off to go h67?
If im not mistaken z68 is a newer /better chipset that replaces both p67/h67 by taking the best features from both ( why its more expensive) Since its only a little over a month old ,give it time there will be more boards eventually!

and this is a few yrs old. there was almost a 50% fps loss with a 8800gts ( x4 - x16) and between x8 - x16 almost 12% loss

They're using PCIe 1.0, not 2.0. The bandwidth is halved, making it more like the difference between x8 and x4 today. The difference between x8 and x16 today has been shown to be closer to 1%.
