How painful is XFX RMA process?

Thread Starter
Just had my 5850 take a royal poop on me last night (video froze up + brown/white lines covered the entirety of the screen while everything else was still working, would also have it randomly quit sending signal to my monitor), card is still stock, very weak overclock (+135mhz core, +50mhz memory... well, weak compared to my Sapphire 4830 that was taken to +200mhz core and +112mhz memory AND a bios voltage up that stayed stable for 2 years with an Accelero and 120mm fan on it), and less then four months old.

So, how much of a pain is it to RMA with XFX? Registered my card shortly after I got it, so that part is done, I just don't wanna be stuck on my 4830 after being spoiled.

Side note: pretty upset that it crapped out so quickly on me against my 4830 which has been, well, fairly abused compared to it.

Which 5850 was it, a non reference?

XFX can be okay but from experience, its not normally fun.

My experience: Flawless, quick and painless.

Others' Experience: Some good some terribad.

It's kinda hit and miss... I'll just say you should be fine, just document everything smile.gif

It's not that bad. I've done it twice. XFX's 5850 is a piece of garbage though, I'd recommend selling the refurbished one they will send back to you. They make you pay for shipping which sucks, but I mean, they get you a replacement. Hopefully all goes well for you. redface.gif

Non reference indeed. Barely overclocked worth a flip.

With saving up to move out, I'd rather pay shipping for a replacement then paying the difference for a new card. Once I move out though: new rig time comes shortly afterwards.

XFX warranty process is very quick and fast. RMA process and handling was much faster than EVGA, but some ppl didn't like their replacements.
If you have reference card, you may not likely to get back reference replacements.
Not really sure about the XFX quality, but they have really fast RMA process.

I've had to go through their RMA many times. You do pay for shipping; but other than that, XFX's RMA process is flawless.

You may gripe about paying for shipping, but look at XFX's warranty terms sometime. The warranty does not get voided by overclocking (I'm sure melting the card probably voids it, though), nor does it get voided by installing an aftermarket cooler (assuming you install it right, that is). I've been looking at the warranties of other GPU makers, and I don't think I've seen one with similar allowances.

Just updating, got a card back from RMA... a brand new HD 6870. Sorta mixed feelings but I'm not arguing with A: it overclocks B: I'm currently Furmarking @ 1ghz core @ 1.2v. C: it's not some b-stock replacement. Very timely manner, might actually do business with them again to grab another 6870 further along the year.
