[WCCF] ASUS Details Geforce GTX 580 ROG Matrix Graphics Card - Page 4

Yeah, but my guess is that the mosfets, inductors and caps are all high grade...
The problem is that, the cards won't clock much higher than the reference ones. Of course, you have the basis for that to happen, but on air... meh.

Example, i had a GTX580 DCU2 that clocked to 975Mhz on air... pretty nice, but a reference card that i tried ( MSI ) clocked to 990Mhz ... and after putting under water, it could go as high as 1045Mhz.

Other example is a 6970 Lightning ... I tried one and it clocked as high as another Sapphire ( reference )

Yes... the temperatures will go down since the load on the VRM is lower, but with less phases you can achieve that And the big plus is the monstrous cooler

But hey ... it sells ... it's what matters the most!

My only beef:

voltage check points that are exposed, requiring you to put your multimeter probe directly on the point you want to measure.

Great if you're an EE. Not so great if you're just a regular tweaker that wants to leave the multimeter on the card and monitor voltages from Windows.

That's a huge no-no IMO. Gigabyte did this on their 6870 SOC as well (http://hardocp.com/image.html?image=...8xM19sLmpwZw==) and frankly that's just really REALLY dumb.

Especially on a premium priced card.

I'd be surprised if anyone is going to buy this card.

I agree. I like the leads that plug in much better, so I cen just leave my DMM plugged in instead of holding it there or soldering wires to the pads.

$700???
I will go with a 590 or a 6990 and still get better performance. Besides, the MARS II from ASUS will be coming out whenever it does, which will have 2 of the 580 gpu's and 3 GB of memory, they should price the MARS II at $780 and the matrix 580 at $580.

The MARS II seems to be 1.5GB mirrored, like all dual GPU cards the total memory is the one they market. The 6990 is marketed as 4GB, but it's really just 2GB mirrored.
