corsair xms3 1600mhz

Thread Starter
Just overclocked my PC for the first time.

I have it overclocked at 3.7ghz
CPU-NB 2630MHz

Now i have completed my CPU overclock and is stable i want to lower the timings.

Default for my ram

9 9 9 24 41 2T 1.65v 1600MHz

I decided to leave everything on auto bar the voltage which i left on 1.65v and i got this

8 8 8 20 27 1T 1.65v 1400mhz

Now this is stable but i was also able to overclock the ram which was also stable.

9 9 9 24 38 2T 1.65v 1750MHz

So

Whats betters

1400mhz @ 8 8 8 20 27 1T
or
1750mhz @ 9 9 9 28 38 2T

Those are kind of odd speeds, but AMD processors like tighter timings better, so I would say go with the first option. Is it unstable at something like 8-8-8-20-27-1T 1600MHz?

I havent tried lower timings at default speed

due to the overclock of the CPU

i can either have the ram running at 1400MHz or 1750Mhz

Well then I would suggest running at 1400MHz with the tighter timings, since like I said, AMD CPUs like tighter timings more.

Usually Cas 8 would want to be 8-8-8-24-32... if its unstable, try that. On AMD, I wouldn't expect too much more then the 1600 you already got, but its a system to system thing. Once I got 1600 stable, I left it alone, but my RAM is 1333 stock, so...

EDIT: oops, I thought you were ddr3 1600... Instead of 1400 vs 1700, just shoot for 1600.

Run the tests yourself (bench with MaxxMem & Sandra) concerning the memory performance comparison!

Yup i am currently doing tests.

So running the ram at 1750MHz wont end up destorying my ram?

bechmarked the two closest ram frequencys to 1600mhz for my overclock
1402MHz
1752MHz

1752MHz came out on top and for some reason it wouldnt let me post at 1401MHz with anything less than 8-8-8.

With that big a difference in speed I had thought that 1752Mhz would edge out.
