XFering Files PC to PC

Thread Starter
Hello,

I'm using a 1GBps switch and two 1GBps cards with Cat6 cable.

I'm only transfering files @ 19-25MB/s this doesn't seem right.

Also whenever I enable JumboFrames I set them between 2-7 and my computer won't find my server?

Both CAT6 cables are 6ft long, and my server has Windows XP on it where my PC has Windows 7.

Any idea why slow xfer speeds?

Regards,
TrentH

You might try and just use the old IP4 (TCP/IP Setting) Windows 7 by default tries to use IP6. Just uncheck IP6 in the network adapter settings and see what it does for ya.

Well as you know 1Gb/s(128MB/s) is the theoretical max. You have to account for the read and write speeds of your drives as well and some other network related bits.

I'm using Sata II drives, they can write atleast 30-50MB/s that I know of.

Also I am using IP4 i've got the IP set as 192.168.20.1 on my PC and 192.168.20.20 on my server.

I have no idea why this is going so slowly.

Double check that your drivers are up to date on both computers. Also, if the HD Format is different between the two drives, your read and write times will be slower. (ie. FAT, FAT32, NTFS, etc.)

EDIT: Physically go into your adapter properties and uncheck the IP6 box. Your Windows 7 computer will have two IP addresses, IP4 and IP6. You can also try clearing the IP address and having them auto-reassigned.
