EVGA SLI 580 temp Issues...

Thread Starter
Just got my new pc put together, and its fast as all.

BUT.

When playing crysis 2 the other day, on maxed out settings, one of my 580s was running at 88c, the other hovering around 82c.

The fans were at like 55% when I checked NVIDIA tools.

Is this an ok heat level for long term gameplay?

Yes it is, I get about the same temps
I believe when it gets to 90C, the fan speeds go up by defaults... I have everything stock and that seems normal. Pretty much the same MB so they are like sandwiched together... Temps are good...

Fermi cards are designed to be fine until 100-110c, which at that point they will downclock themselves to prevent a burnout.
that is fine...the top card is just starving for air unlike the bottom card.

if your so worried about the temps then watercool them

The top card doesn't get as much air as the bottom card, obviously... but the cards in general are designed to be sandwiched together since they have air inlets at the ends of the card and the design actually allows a bit of air to reach the intake fan...
I also thought of water cooling but if you are not overclocking (because they are fast enough), then it's probably not worth it... Waterblocks for each card are anywhere from $110 to $160 so I don't see it being worth a quarter the cost as the card itself... The stock vapor chamber cooler is really good and quiet IMO... My CD Drive is louder when they are on load...
Enjoy the setup! I love the speed and knowing that there is no better dual GPU setup available...

I was in the same position as you with worrying about temps, so I stuck 'em under water.

It cost me a few hundred quid but I've never regreted it

You run a seperate radiator just for the GPU's and the H50 for the CPU? Wouldn't it be better to run them all in the loop and add another pump in the mix?
I am also debating watercooling for everything in general... How much did that setup cost if you don't mind me asking?
and whats the difference between the Danger Den and Danger Den DD?

I will be adding the CPU to the loop when I get the cash.

It cost around £350 for the loop I have now:
  • £140 for the blocks
  • £46 for the rad
  • £55 for the pump/res
  • £12 for each of the fans (6x 120mm Scythe Gentle Typhoon)
  • £40 for the fittings and hose

The DD is double the width of the standard one.

Get MSI Afterburner up and running and set up a custom fan profile for the cards, so when they hit a certain tempature, the fans will be running 80-100%, the cards should be down in the 70-60s C then
