HDD not showing up, HDD light always on?

Thread Starter
I just recently swapped my WD 160GB 2.5" HDD out of my Acer Aspire One 250 and replaced it with my OCZ Vertex 30GB 2.5" SDD. I decided to put the old WD HDD in my desktop and dedicate it to Windows Ready Boost, you know, just for the slight difference in performance (if there is any).

The issue is ... W7 won't detect the hard drive. First I though it was the SATA ports on my mobo, but the BIOS showed my other two 3.5" drives working in every port I plugged the 2.5" in to, so they're all working. Disk Management wouldn't detect it, even after I scanned for new hardware. I also noticed that my HDD light on my case never turns off ... its always on even when idling, which just showed up after I put the drive in.

I looked around online to see if anyone else was having this issue, but I didn't find anything, so I though I'd see if you guys knew anything.

Any and all help is appreciated! Thank guys.

I assume you still have an OS on the drive? If so, you'll have to manually set it as active in Diskpart and then format it.
See if you can see it in disk management.

He said it didn't show.

Open an elevated command prompt and type "diskpart" then type "list disk" and see if it shows.

Diskpart doesn't display it either. And yes, it does have an OS on it.

That's odd, it should show up in diskpart. Have you tried a different SATA cable?

No, but it is the same one I used on my SDD before I installed it in my Netbook.

You could try popping it back in the netbook and see what happens. Then you could verify that it's not dead. If you decide to go that route, get a Live Linux distro and format the HDD before you take it back out.

I'll try that. Its such a pain to get that thing out of my case, the 2.5" bay adapter likes to get stuck on every cable possible ... but I do have a few hours to burn.
