I was a hardware tech there. It's where I got my start. You should have heard some of their conversations in the staff lounge, when Fermi came out they agreed that a single GTX480 would require a minimum of a 1000W PSU, preferably 1200W.

I finally got banned from the hardware section for publicly confronting Dai when he recommended a $120 SeaSonic S12E 650W for a system with a Phenom II X3 and a Radeon HD4350 (I recommended a $45 Corsair CX400 instead). Ridiculous. I spent a little time on their game tech team, but it was mostly console stuff. So that's when I devoted my time entirely to OCN instead.

TSF are a bunch of ignorant twats, just ignore them.

Are they the only forum that does that? I know many more like Tom's...

A 650w can power 3 6870's? I heard at that near 100% load on the psu, it gets real hot and the power may overwhelm the psu and shut it down?

TSF are the worst I've come across. But nearly everyone overestimates power draw to some extent. Heck, I do it sometimes. You just have to look at the facts, rather than what sounds "truthy".

Three 6870s can run on a 650W, but I don't recommend it really. It isn't dangerous for a quality PSU, but you'll be running it at 40%+ even when idle, and stress testing could hit 100-110% load. Gaming would still be fine though, at around 70-90% load. But at that point it's really worth just stepping up to a 750W.

That's why I've gone back to try and change their minds several times, but they just won't listen. My original account has been banned I think, and most of the alt accounts I made as well. Even when trying to be polite they just lay the banhammer on anyone who disagrees with them.

So they are power abusing source of misinformation?
Great!
Power supplies are odd to recommend, because its not only the wattage but also the quality/ripple/etc that matters. eg Diablotek 1000w PSU

You mean that Codegen 500W with a 1050W label?

And this Diablotek PHD650 I've got that has 30A worth of +12V rectifiers?
