Best ram to hit ~2000

....but use until BD comes out.

I know that the processor I have now won't hit it, but I'm sure a BD will. I am hoping to hit 1600 for now. I am looking at a few different ones and need some memory guru opinions. My mb is an ASRock 890 GX PRO3 AM3+ and I am looking to spend ~$100.

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8
DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Timing 8-8-8-24
Voltage: 1.5V

SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) Model F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM
DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Timing 8-8-8-24
Voltage: 1.5V

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR
DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Timing 9-10-9-28
Voltage: 1.5V
(Great price but, I'm not sure about the sniper series. Any opinions?)

CORSAIR XMS 4GB (x2) Model CMX4GX3M1A1600C7
DDR3 1600 Timing 7-8-7-20
Voltage: 1.65V
(do they need to be "programmed" for duel channel as some mfgs suggest?)

Is it worth the $$ difference to get 1600@CL7 instead of CL8? Also, is there really a difference between 1333@CL7, 1600@CL8 and 1866@CL9.....same thing.....right? I mean.....is it safe to assume that 1333@CL7 will overclock to 1866@CL9?

I tried reading up on the ICs but it's a lot to digest and most of the info in the sticky was DDR2

Most memory can be clocked pretty high just by changing the memory multiplier - I would go for the vengeance or ripjaws as they can most likely have the timings bumped, but none of these are for sure 2000mhz memory - if you want 2000mhz memory, buy something that is actually rated at that, that way you don't have to mess with voltage and timings in order to try and get that high.

Won't that make it difficult for the processor I have now though. It needs to run at 1333. Can't you only underclock so much?....and it's not actually in my price range?

Edit: I have to change the fsb. My bios doesn't have a memory multiplier to adjust.

.....or should I get the 1866CL9 versions of Ripjaws X or Vengeance. My bios has 4 options with my current ram. I assume on 1866 it will have 1333, 1600, 1866, and auto.....right?

Your bios will have 1066, 1333, 1600 and auto. You are going to have to change the fsb to get your ram to 1866.

I am not entirely sure on the overclockability of 2x4GB kits. I do know that some regular 1600 CL9 kits will hit close to 2000 CL9. Your best bet would be perhaps the 1866 CL9 kit. Currently high speed but with CL9 timings really doesn't make a difference over 1600 with low timings, but you never know as that could change with BD.

That's what I needed to hear.

What's up with the ? I wasn't being sarcastic. I've been reading the memory threads. You know your stuff.

Well, it looks like newegg helped make my mind up for me. I got these for $67.99.

SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) Model F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM
DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Timing 8-8-8-24
Voltage: 1.5V

At that price, I don't mind buying a new set for the BD(if I have to) and just put these in one of my media PCs.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Those for $67.99 is a great deal! I can't really find any way to guarantee for you 2000Mhz but it's a great, great price
