[PCGamer]Windows 8 launch next year will start “a real new push into PC gaming” - Page 13

What MS needs to do to make Win8 a gaming os:

  • Give incentives to new developers to code solely in DX11+.
  • Integrate Steam or a steam-like service into the OS.
  • Make it as memory demanding as possible. Make it use all available ram as possible.
  • Give native support for all previous Win8 games. Either through emulation or in the OS itself. Maybe a mini-OS that soles purpose is to play DOS-2000 games.
  • Push multi-core rendering for developers.
  • A major campaign allowing the public to know how inexpensive PC gaming really is. Pushing DX11+ support will aid the campaign as users will be able to push better then 360 graphics at the same price as the console.
  • Bring back audio languages and EAX support natively.
  • Efficient friends list/game browser.
  • Software tweaks that instantly improves visuals on classic games. DX12 should offer a feature that increases polygon count without developers doing anything. Would be pretty kewl.
  • No 32-bit support. Only 64-bit. Regardless of the others, we need to freakin move forward already.

  • I don't think MS will let sound drivers get kernel level access anymore. It is a security and stability issue. Frankly, quad-core CPUs can handle extra sound processing.

Windows Server 2008 R2 is 64-bit only. It is believed that Windows 7 is the last OS to support 32-bit CPUs.

Talk of Windows 8? This is proof that MS really considered W7 to be a Vista SP, IMO.

So... will Windows 8 actually be NT 7.0, or 6.2 lol.

Given Microsoft's history, they've always released an operating system every 2-3 years(with the exception of Vista), so this shouldn't come across as a surprise. They are just following what they've been following for the last 25 years.

Yes, but Windows 7 isn't really a new OS. And, thank you, I know.

Honestly I love my windows 7 so much that I won't touch another Windows OS for the next 10 years. Why? Because I feel like when it comes to operating systems, it's just a bunch of bloatware (it's the programs you install on your OS that really matters).

The next big thing won't happen until there's proof that it cam make M$ millions. So until we had 3D desktops or something like that, M$ is just going to keep putting on a new coat of paint on it's OS and try to sell it to the public as "new"

p.s. this is my 500th post
