Lol, didn't know downloading a 50mb program was such a big deal, you're overreacting.

This would be good because they don't have to build in hardware to emulate games on say the Xbox 720, and it maintains Xbox 360 games sales (thus clearing stock!).

Also, I know many of you will have a hissy fit, but piracy is more widespread on PC than consoles (although it exists on the latter), so I cannot see them doing this.

Rubbish rumour is rumour.
I doubt piracy is the issue.

Microsoft makes more money off the games than the consoles, but then you have all these idiots that are complaining because they can't run the games.

Even if a 360 emulator was made by MS for PC gamers, we'd never be playing cross platform. MS already tried that in 2010 as a small project to see how such a system would work. It ended up that even the occasional PC gamer with their keyboard & mouse, could get on their computer and eviscerate some of the most skilled XBL console players who were bound to a controller.

What was the name of that project? Anyways, that's why cross-platform wont happen.

Maybe when the console gets a keyboard & mouse, cross-platform gaming will work better!

IF this is true, this would no doubt change PC gaming forever. This is assuming its implemented correctly and works as it should.

Been done. Horrible reviews but been done. I suspect the bad reviews are all PEBKAC issues. It wouldn't really be considered cross platform play as you are playing Xbox 360, just on your PC. If Xbox Live is integrated into Windows 8, you'd be on the same Xbox Live as Xbox 360 players are.

Xbox 360 has been out for awhile and had its run, this makes sense considering there could/will be a successor to it

Not for the 360 there aren't. There are third party emulators for consoles several times weaker than modern PCs that still don't have perfect performance scaling, not to mention inconsistencies and bugs with games in a case to case basis.

Now you think emulating the entire 360 platform on PCs will be feasible? The 360 may be old but with 3 PowerPC based cores with SMT the CPU is still hefty.
