Hmm...yea black...the back ends will heat shrink fine though. Lemme know if you need a spare 'face plate' cause i have two that im not using. IIRC its a 1/4" mounting hole.

Update 1. Painting the Optical drive.

Well, since not all of the parts are here yet (including the case rolleyes.gif) I am going to start this log off nice and easy. Since the whole theme of this case is going to be black, black and more black, we had better get rid of that ugly greyish blah coloration that comes on all optical drives.

Step one, mask it off dummy! Not much to say here, I just masked off the front bezel and rear connections. Make sure to put screws in so your threads aren't gummed up.

IMG_1727.jpg
IMG_1728.jpg
IMG_1729.jpg

And we spray away.... I chose a semi-gloss black. Hopefully it will go well with the case.
IMG_1737.jpg

And here is after a couple coats.
IMG_1739.jpg

And the finished product:

IMG_1752.jpg
IMG_1753.jpg

Turned out well. The paint is really even, but with the gloss it is hard to tell from these photos. It is a bit glossier than I would have liked, but it is black. That is most important right now. tongue.gif

Update 2. Painting the Hot-Swap bay.

In similar fashion to the optical drive, I needed the Hot-Swap bay black as well. Just a simple mask and paint. The model I have here is the Antec EasySata. It seems to be a decent unit. Later on in this build I am hoping to recess the hot-swap bay a bit. I would then use a blank bay cover and some magnets to make the hot-swap bay "disappear" when not in use. We will see how it goes. tongue.gif Anyway, here are the shots from this basic mod.

It really looks way better in black. Doesn't everything though?

Update 3. Painting on a whim......

So after I got done with the optical and hot-swap, I began thinking about what other things I would rather have in black. I made a short list, and then I realized one of the biggest things in my case wasn't black at all.....

IMG_1741.jpg

Yup, my Noctua. Time to change that a tiny bit.....

I decided that just the top fin could easily be painted black without ruining the performance. So, on with the masking and on with the painting!

IMG_1742.jpg
IMG_1743.jpg

And after drying.....we got this. I love it to death.

IMG_1744.jpg
IMG_1745.jpg

That will conclude my updates for the night. I will have a couple more tomorrow, and then some will slowly roll in over the holiday weekend. Stay tuned, this build is going to be a fun one. Take care.

Also, do you think cathodes would look good behind the two strips of mesh on the front of the case? Too much maybe?

The cathodes and LEDs are going to be white, BTW.

Edit. Read that wrong, but the bottom statement still stands!

That being said, I cannot freaking wait to see how this mod goes. I love this case :/ It's one of my all time favorites. I'd buy it personally, but I don't know how to really mod cases, and I would've wanted at least a half view window.

Nice job on the Nocuta thumb.gif that actually looks really good. Did you think about doing the closed off sides as well or are you leaving them?

I did think about that. I am still not sure if I want to, but it is a possibility. It may make my Noctua look like a Zalman.

Update 4. The parts are here!

So I fell ill today, but garnered enough strength to get some pics and post a quick update.

Here is most of what will be inside the comp when all is said and done. I may even try to track down another GTX285 here soon.

IMG_1758.jpg

And finally, after two weeks of waiting, the Shinobi arrives.

IMG_1750.jpg

I will save the details of the case for later in this log, but right off the bat I can say I am very pleased with this case. The looks are stunning, and the fit and finish is very good for a case of it's price. I can say without a doubt that Bitfenix has a winner on their hands. This case is going to sell like hotcakes. Stay tuned for more, maybe another quick update later tonight. Peace homies.

Update 5. Modding the sound card's PCB

So the sound card I am using for this build is an M-Audio Audiophile 192. It is a great card, with only one minor fault for this build....a blue PCB.

IMG_1723.jpg

So after some research, I found a solution.

IMG_1724.jpg

Yup. Liquid Electrical Tape. Let's see how it goes. Here is the first coating.

IMG_1725.jpg

At this point I am not too pleased with the results. But let's push on to a second coat:

IMG_1726.jpg

As you can see, the brushstrokes show pretty clearly. It globs up in places as well. I can't say I'm happy with the finished product, but this piece will NOT be a focal point of the build. If I ever go SLI, it will be a non-factor completely. So here it is:

IMG_1735.jpg
IMG_1736.jpg

Again, I think it will suffice. It should be shadowed by the GPU, and your eyes will have many other things to be drawn to. If all else fails, I am prepared to buy a new sound card with a black PCB. tongue.gif
