Intel 510 120GB

Thread Starter
Hello, I built my system over the weekend and I'm still trying to make sure everything is fine before I continue loading all of my programs. I work nights so I don't have a lot of time to work on it during the week. My questions are while doing my build when I first went into BIOS (version F4), I could see my SSD listed under the IDE devices. I then changed the Sata ports to ACHI.The drive is connected to the Intel SATA III port. After changing to ACHI the SSD is longer visible in the IDE list in the BIOS. Is this normal? Windows was able to find it during the install and Windows 7 installed. Everything seems to be fine other than not seeing it in the BIOS. I was also wondering should I enable SMART? Windows has it listed as a detachable drive is this normal? I tried to do a search but I get mixed answers. Time for work

Thanks A Lot

try moving the the your SSD from sata III 5/6 to sata II. Get those drivers installed than move to sata III 7/8 ports. I had same issue a few weeks ago, where it saw it as a removable drive. Try using the intel driver instead of the Marvell its better

So a driver update solved the SSD being viewed as a removable drive problem? I think I downloaded everything gigabyte had on their site for my board. The only things I didn't install were RAID drivers since I don't use it. What do you think cause the BIOS not to see it after I changed the SATA ports to ACHI?

You need to install the Intel RST software for it to not be removable.

Recomended mobo to be set to AHCI

Cool, thanks I'll look for the RST program when I get home. Does anyone have a idea what the BIOS problem maybe? That part is weird because I could see the two drives connected (SSD and DvD) after first boot of the board, but after changing from IDE to AHCI I could not. This was before windows install on a new drive.

If Windows seeing the drive, don't worry about the BIOS.

Can you be more specific on the issue with the BIOS after switching to AHCI

Where are you looking that the SSD has not shown up.. Switching to AHCI will (as a feature) not display information in specific locations regarding your drives, but instead relocate it to the AHCI BIOS that comes after POST/BIOS that you normally see.

If you can, take pictures. Its a pain, but the likelyhood of a 100% correct answer is a lot higher when I see what you're referring to
