3 Monitors with one card

Thread Starter
Hi all,

My question is in regards to my current setup below. I currently have 2 monitors set up right now through the two David outputs on my 5850. How would I be able to get three monitors setup with the least amount of cost?

I don't want to have to buy a display port adapter, so what are my options? I already have an old 19 inch LCD lying around that has both VGA and Dvi connections too. Thanks for all the help!

This should do the trick. I am sure you can find a cheaper one though.

If you're using both DVI outputs already I'd suggest buying a HDMI to DVI adapter, or alternatively a HDMI to DVI cable. Before choosing one make sure the DVI interface matches your display, most including the ones below are DVI-D.

you have to buy the display port adapter, no way around it.

All cards that I've owned have been able to display on more than two outputs at once, I'm currently using HDMI, DVI, and VGA with a GTX 260. This might not be true for all cards on the market, I have a motherboard with onboard graphics that has this issue, but I'd be willing to bet the OP's card can output 2 DVI ports and HDMI simultaneously.

Again, it's entirely possible, but do you have any proof or first hand experience that you can't use both DVI ports as well as HDMI simultaneously with the OP's card? I'm simply trying to cut down on cost for the OP, if the card indeed has the capability that's quite a bit of money saved, he already stated that he would rather not spend the cash for a display adapter.

Not possible, its common knowledge with the 5850 and yes i have 1st hand knowledge with the 5k series cards, dont need proof as i say its common knowledge...dont take my word for it though, search around on here for the threads.

There has reccently been a version of 5770 made that does actually support 3 monitors straight from the box without the need for an active dp dongle, but op didnt say he had a special edition and i havent seen one for the cyprus(58xx)anyway.
