There has reccently been a version of 5770 made that does actually support 3 monitors straight from the box without the need for an active dp dongle, but op didnt say he had a special edition and i havent seen one for the cyprus(58xx)anyway.
Thanks for the clarification, I haven't owned a 5000 series card and have no interest in doing so. It's obviously not common knowledge, even for those who own it, if it were the OP wouldn't have made this thread in the first place.

Like I said it's far from common knowledge, it was a simple mistake from lack of experience with the specific card.

As for the last part, this is what forums are for, the OP and I didn't know that a display port adapter is required to display on more than 2 at once with the 5000 series, the only thing I'm guilty of is being premature in offering product suggestions before making sure that it worked with the OP's specific card. I apologize for trying to save money like he requested.

Thread Starter
Thanks for the replies!

I was thinking that this would be the case for my card, I am currently looking to buy another card for cf, but if that does not end up happening I found a dp adapter at a local computer store here for 25, and I have a fifty dollar gift certificate for them so I will actually not end up spending any money. Thanks again!

You need an active display port adapter. No other way around it, there only thirty bucks. A normal adapter will not work. It has to be active.

A DVI port has limitations and can only output to two monitors, a display port can daisy chain multiple monitors. So for a normal card you can have twin DVI and one display port for three monitors. If you wanted a third DVI the active adapter allows that by keeping the original display port signal.

My question is in regards to my current setup below. I currently have 2 monitors set up right now through the two David outputs on my 5850. How would I be able to get three monitors setup with the least amount of cost?

I don't want to have to buy a display port adapter, so what are my options? I already have an old 19 inch LCD lying around that has both VGA and Dvi connections too. Thanks for all the help!
