A BF2 noob.

Hey guys, I have really been trying to get into BF2, and I am quite terrible at this game . Coming from BC2, there are a lot of differences. The one thing that attracted me to it the most was that it was more vehicle based and "strategic".

I can't find anyone in this game. For example, whenever I play Gulf of Oman or Wake Island, I get put on the USMC marines where the only spawn point is the carrier cause we don't have any flags. Then it is a mission trying to get onto dry land. I literally meet no one on foot and run into a tank or a helicopter or jet and well get destroyed. Worse, when we do have one flag capped, and I spawn there, boom:tank, helicopter, jet spawns death apon us . I find moving around map kinda difficult. If someone could explain the vehicle spawns a little to me that would help .

Also, been playing some infantry only so I don't get raped by vehicles. You think I should stick to infantry only?

Some other questions: 1)How do I dolphin dive? I've seen a guy dolphin dive revive someone and thought it looked cool .
2) How do I choose which weapon to use? Every kit is a preset, and I am rank 1 I think.
3) How do the gun ballistics work? Bullet drop, bullets land where you aim?
4) Project reality: good idea? How much different is it so?

Yeah on carrier maps it's a kind of a big pain to get to the mainland sometimes when the enemy has air superiority, especially on Gulf of Oman (in which case you could just go in the carrier's AA guns to take them out). Usually people all go to the helicopters or to the small island on Wake that's close to the mainland. You can try getting on a boat all the way from the carrier, but if you're not squad leader you're probably not going to get followed.
Not sure what you don't understand about the vehicle spawns.

Use vehicles if you know how to use them.

1. You dolphin dive by jumping and then immediately going prone (z). Note that when you go prone, you get deviation for a few seconds, so it's not a good idea to do it in CQC unless you're really close and surprise him.

2. You need to gain ranks to unlock weapons. Once you've unlocked them, you can change the weapon by clicking on the double arrows button in the kit/spawn selection menu.

3. There's no bullet drop in BF2. There is bullet travel time. However there's deviation, which means that every shot lands randomly inside a circle centered on your reticle. Of course, the first shot is the most precise (some are dead accurate, but some weapons like the first medic unlock gun will actually miss the target on the first shot by a huge margin) and as you shoot more the circle widens. Going prone does this too.

4. Project Reality is an awesome idea if you like realism, communication and teamwork. It takes teamwork to a whole new level. In comparison BF2 looks like Dice just gave a bunch of people weapons and an objective, and called it 'teamwork'. More than half the people on normal servers have mics, and on good ones, everyone does. People work together in squads and obey every word of the squad leader.
I could spend a lot of time describing it so just look at videos on youtube. Start by searching 'project reality no rest for the wicked'.

Project Reality is a "whole new game" ... almost

it's GREATLY different, with a LOT of added new stuff...
new maps, new missions, new factions, new game mechanics, and if you're the type who likes to jump into the action right away... then it'll make your life EXTREMELY hard...

PR is designed to require a lot of work and planning, and is a LOT more strategic than the normal BF2, which is already hardcore enough if you compare it to BC2... which in turn is a LOT more complicated than the likes of CoD and Halo...

so yes... it takes a LOT of time and patience for Project Reality...

also the game isn't about "customizing weapons" like a lot of the recent FPS have been about, it's more class oriented and use what's at your disposal... it's more role specific than weapon specific, you don't choose a class because you want the weapon, but you choose a class because you do what you do best

You can play co-op games until you have accuracy and the maps down, also you should be able to unlock the kits fast if you stick to 1 server (such as the TEAM servers). That will show you all the options for guns you have.

PR I have heard great things about, but also that it is a bit tough to get the hang of as it is so much different than vanilla BF2.

If you are getting vehicle whored, play an infantry map--such as Africa Harbor or Oasis.

You want kills bro?????
Step #1 Get the Saiga 20k (I believe you need to practically install the game to get it) Also get acquainted with spamming left click, it's nearly impossible to miss the target. The cross-hairs are like 24 inch rims.

Step #2 Get the Carl Gustav rocket launcher (AKA Hot Carl) Shoot it in the general direction of any living sole= automatic kill. If your accuracy isn't 100% uninstall system32.

Step #3 Make sure to get all the explosive perks. These perks insure a kill if you aim 100ft away from your target.

Step #4 ??????????????????

Step #5 Profit.

P.S. I'd uninstall if you have ever use any of these above mentioned tactics.

Ahh BF2 not BC2- anyway, most of these tactics still apply.

lol @ above, didn't sound quite right to me, accuracy is very important in BF2 haha. The S-12k as they call it in BF2 is a beast though (at least when enemy bots use it).

No, they absolutely do not.

Battlefield 2 is more of a simulation rather than what bc2 seems to be more of a cod4 arcade style shooter

Thank for you all the suggestions. OCN is being weird right now and says there is no replies to this thread so I didn't check up on it for a while. And lol @ Leighteam. Yes Saiga abuse and Gustav spam with upgraded explosvies is quite the pro class to use . Also lol @ Africa Harbour (it's Arica).

And I'm not a twitch sort of FPS player, I've played a lot of different FPSs and I don't expect for one stategy to be universal across all games. I initially thought wow BC2 is really a strategic game (coming from COD) and then after playing BF2 I realized that BC2 isn't really as strategic as the classic BFs. Also linear maps . And shortage/lack of vehicles in all/most situations.
