8gb for future use?

Thread Starter
Hey guys. Im buying this system.

Proccesor : i7 – 2600k
Graphic card : 1536MB DDR5 GTX580, DUAL DVI, HDMI, NVIDIA GEFORCE
Cabinet: Coolermaster Elite 430
Memory : 4GB DDR3 1600
1000gb Sata 2 (2 x 500gb)
CPU COOLER : Arctic Cooling
700W 80+ CERTIFIED CORSAIR STRØMF. (700GS) *SUPER SILENT*
7.1 Sorround Sound Card
10x USB Port
P67A-UD4

Should i upgrade to 8gb right now just to be safe, if there should be released any game in the future which requires it, or should i just stick with 4gb and upgrade to 8gb later on?

Thanks in advance

Pretty much no, you will not see a performance difference. 4GB's plenty. When you require 8GB, then upgrade.

I haven't played a game that uses all 4 gigs of my RAM yet, but if I hadn't bought it yet i'd go with 8 just to be safe.

Most people who have a system like that have 12GB but there is no reason why 4GB wont work.

Today I upgraded my old Core 2 Quad that had 2GB of RAM to a new 2600K with 16GB. Windows used ~500MB of memory when idle. Now it uses 2.6GB (just windows, msn and skype)!
Quite simply, the more RAM you have the more the programs will use. Depending on price I'd just go ahead and grab 8GB. You're buying a 2600K, why save money on the RAM?
That said, 4GB is plenty enough.

I don't really see a reason not to get 8GB, I hit close to 4Gb memory usage very frequently. You probably won't see RAM get cheaper than it is at the moment, take advantage of that. You'll be kicking yourself later.

If I remember your previous post looking for a pre-built for gamimg, 4GB should be plenty but it doesn't hurt to get 8GB incase you get into something else like VMware which I run.

Im sorry dude but 16gig is so over kill haha

As for the OP, 8gig is becoming the norm. Jump on board, Youll be safe for a few years.

4GB will be ok, but there are more reasons to have 8GB than just FPS in games, which is what many say when they mean "performance".

It can give your graphics card more breathing room as it'll have more system RAM for textures. It can help you a lot if you keep a lot of programs running at once. It does a lot more than can be measured in the Task Manager.

4GB is a workable minimum; 8GB is an excellent amount for now and a year or two to come.

And as cheap as memory is now, in my opinion it makes more sense to go with 8.
