Bottlenecking?! Dun dun dunnn

Thread Starter
Hey. I currently have an AMD Phenom II x4 830 @ 2.80 GHz, is it bottlenecking my card? It's a XFX HD ATi 6770, I was looking at a Thuban 1100T Black Edition. Not for overclock, but for the 3.7GHz turbo speed. Opinions?

It is very balanced, nothing is being bottleneck here.

Turbo doesn't work very well.

If you're not overclocking (and even if you are really) the x6 isn't always the best choice for gaming.

I wouldn't really know if you're bottlenecking or not, the best way to find out is to test it yourself with a program like MSI Afterburner to track your gpu usage while IG with vsync off.

The x4 970 would be the best "stock" AMD cpu to buy currently for gaming imo.

How can you say no, then ask what res he's playing at?

you mean the 955? 970 is just a factory OC and a waste of money...not a change in architecture

He said he said "not for overclock" and hes running his cpu stock right now, not everyone overclocks and the 970 would be faster than the 955 at stock.

I even said "stock"...

Thanks for the speedy reply guys. I've heard ArmA 2 is more CPU intensive, so should I buy the 970 to replace my current 830?

Also, I was interested in it for the 6 cores, and ArmA 2 is more-so CPU intensive rather than games as much. I'm planning on upgrading to a CrossFire system with two 6770s, but I was just wondering what I'd need.

And cnupuppie, I'm running at 1366 x 768.
