GTX 480 - Stripped Screw x3 T_T

Thread Starter
Any of you guys have experience in drilling out the 'head' of the screw? Nothing seems to work for me. Not a rubber band, not a screw extractor kit... nada! I'm thinking on either using a drill to drill out the 'head', or give JB weld a try. I've got a EK GTX 480 Waterblock/Backplate package arriving soon, and would LOVE to use it.....heh. Any help would be very appreciated!

if you are drilling it out make sure you use a bit thats smaller then the screw so you dont hit the card and best of luck

So, if I choose to use the Drill, do I just drill down the center until the 'head' breaks apart? I remember reading to use a small drill bit at first, then go up a size once i've drilled down a little.

I've seen people recommend super glue, no experience with it myself however.

Are they fully stripped? Is it the head or the threads?

Pics? Have you tried a flat head?

Two of the screw's heads are messed up, while the last one I used a screw extractor kit on, only to realize that it was getting me nowhere. So the last screw pretty much has no head anymore. The 'head' is the round diameter, or the phililps...thing? Stupid question I bet.

If you have room use a dremel to cut a small slot in the head to fit a flat head screwdriver, but it's a bit extreme.
The super glue trick works sometimes try that first.

It sounds like you could use something to just grind it out by hand, all you need to do is weaken the head enough that you can pull the heat sink off.

Try to use the kit to grind out the head, just be careful not to hit the pcb.
