If you want to change their mind I suggest everyone who is tethering illegally to stop and pay for the service if you need to tether. This is basically the main reason why they are doing this. Dev's have even stop supporting it.

Thats false. alot of devs provide tethering. even if you pay for the tethering plan you still are data capped way to early. They want to stop people from tethering without the plan then they need to give us a truly open and unlimited data plan for the cost of the tethering plan.
/end on tethering rage

No they do not. All the Droid X/2 Devs DO NOT support tethering. I'm sure their are plenty of others. If you bring up the subject in XDA it won't be pretty. Verizon and AT&T are VERY pissed off with tethering recently.

Sensational article is sensationalist.
Even if it is a sensationalist article and [hypothetically] the bootloader could be cracked, we should still be fighting against it. As if we allow them to continue then one day they will just lock and sign every bootloader to the point where we cant crack them and end the custom rom scene forever.

If we can make them change it here and now with only voicing our words, wouldnt that be much better then having developers spending potentially weeks if not months attempting to crack it? I think so.

Won't be buying a phone that's locked down. Good thing i have to wait until next march to upgrade to see if things smooth out.

Good thing I didn't wait for the EVO and bought a Galaxy S II. After having the Atrix for a month with the locked bootloader I couldn't stand it anymore. As far as tethering goes it serves carriers right for charging for a service that costs them absolutely nothing to provide.

Okay, fair enough.

Do you have WiFi in your house? Anybody else have WiFi at home?

Let's all call our cable provider and suggest they charge a fee for wifi devices connected to our paid internet. This is your logic of thinking after all.

If I pay for unlimited data*, it makes no sense on which device is using that data.

This, excellent analogy.

Don't charge me $10 extra per month for an enhanced data package unless you want me to enhance it.

All the locked bootloader is going to stop is custom roms, and not all of them.

The droid X has a locked bootloader, but can be rooted, used for tethering, and has some custom roms being developed for it. It's just a lot more work because the rom has to basically "look" like the stock OS. At least, thats how I understand it.
