Thread Starter
My friend is giving me a 980x cpu free and I wanted to know if I should keep what I have or go back to 1366 platform again? Or just sell the cpu?

what a friend you have there! Ask yourself, do you really need 6 cores? if so, use it. if not, sell it. maybe give your friend some of the money if you sell it for compensation of his kindness

Sell (of give to me for free ) the 980x, 2600k is comparable to it on single to small multitasking and not work to re-buy all of 1366 again.

where to find friends like yours!

OT: You would have to outlay atleast $400+ (quote me if im wrong) for a new mobo for that CPU, assuming all your other components are transferable, but upon selling your 2600k + mobo, you could come out in front..

Thats only talking from a pricing point, performance wise i think the 980x outperforms the 2600k in tasks such as folding or video encoding (i think the 2600k needs a z68 board to compete)

Also, Ivy Bridge will be backwards compatible with the P67/Z68 chipsets, so if you go with the 980x there will be no upgrade path in the future, apart from new Mobo + SB-E when its released.

That is of course assuming your sticking with intel..
