Intel 2600K goes down to 1.5ghz at times?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Just got my rig setup. Im running the Intel 2600K on an Asus P8P67 Deluxe board. Right after startup I noticed that the clock on the processor goes from 3.4 to 1.5ghz at times...

Is this normal? Is there any way I can keep it at the 3.4ghz stock speed? Im new to customizing settings and know absolutely nothing about overclocking. Im also new to Intel processors (coming from AMD).

Totally normal that is just speedstep, when you stress the cpu it will go back up to normal or turbo speeds.

Disable speedstep and C1 C3 C6 Ceverything.

Nah! Save power when you don't need the CPU. It won't effect your overclocking or performance.

Well technically it will by a small amount.

However SB uses very little power to begin with, idle or load so its not like you'll probably even notice the difference on your electric bill.

Most appreciated gentlemen! I just didnt know if that was typical or not.

I have one more question. This should probably be going into the Ram forum but I figured since im here I might as well ask. The ram I have is Corsair Vengeance 8gb kit thats rated at 1600 mhz. However, the motherboard only reads it as 1300. I read that thats because XMP needs to be enabled on the board... but i cannot find out where to enable it.

I think overclock tuning or engine or something? Should have "turbo" in it by default

What's the point? It won't affect anything. I can see this being useful if you're overclocking at extreme voltages (to avoid degrading the cpu), but offsets+C3/C6 tend to be VERY likely to cause 0x124 BSOD's at high overclocks.

And I did 36 hours of prime blend last month and my electric bill was *LOWER* than it was a month ago when I wasn't priming. So yeah...no need to downclock when a CPU uses 30W at idle. Having it use 15w is going to save you what, $1 a month?

Where has it been posted by anyone credible that C3/C6 states can cause 0x124? AI Suite II shows 35-40 watts on idle with C1E/C3/C6/EIST and 55-65 watts without.

On these forums and on XS. Some people have 0x124's when the processor transitions from idle to load, because the proper vcore hasn't kicked in, or sometimes, the vcore drops too much... i never said it WILL happen--only that it might. I saw a post here a few days ago from someone who had 0x124's with offset when running past 5 ghz, and using C3/C6.
