My PWM Y-cable only has 1 x 4-pin male connector?

Thread Starter
This is somewhat weird. I bought a Gelid PWM Y Cable that's supposed to allow me to connect 2 x PWM fans to one PWM socket on my motherboard. The female connector is 4-pin. But of the two male connectors, only one is 4-pin and the other is a 4-pin 'socket' but only 3 pins inside. The 4-pin male connector has a white label around it's cable saying "with fan speed signal" and the other male connector (the 3-pin one) has no label. Is this how it's supposed to be?

That is correct.

Yes because one wire is meant for reading the RPM of the fans. If you had that wire on both parts of the splitter the RPM reading would be incorrect.

Yup. As everyone said, you can only measure the RPMs of one fan from one header. If the fans are both of the same model, the RPMs would be just about the same anyways.

OK, but the speed of both fans can still be controlled, right?

not individually, but yes.

Yep thats correct. Otherwise you get double readings and it gets all messed up.

Right. The PWM signal will control the speed of both fans.
