External HDD not working Please help out

Thread Starter
I bought a Team Group External HDD few about 2~3 months ago and it works perfectly fine. Today when i was using it i accidently dropped it to the floor from about 40~50cm height. Now the HDD does not work, I attempted to plug it into the computer it shows up as Drive (J) but doesn't show the name (Team Hardrive) nor the information such as the available space, etc. And it would tell me to remformat it, but I dont want to clean out all the files in it.

Does that mean that this hard drive is done for good? Is there any possible way to extract out the files within the hdd without taking it appart?
Or could the peoples from computer shops fix it for me? But without deleting any of the files within the HDD? It contains all my essays and Projects, presentations! I Really dont want to delete or erase the files within it!

The model of this hard-drive

Brand: Team (Team Group)
Model: TP1021 500GB Portable Storage
Manufactured: Taiwan

Please help out, I'm really in a pinch right now. It would be the best if I can fix it without erasing the files! Thank you very much!

If the drive was powered on when it fell, and the drive was in use then chances are it's toast. If it was off when it fell, then I would suspect a power problem. Try this... put it back in the enclosure, hook everything back up as it was before, and try again.
