What fans should I use?

Thread Starter
I have the build in my sig.

The side panel has 1x 230mm and supports 4x 120mm

The rear has 1x 140mm and supports 1x 120mm

The top has 1x 230mm and supports 3x 120mm

I would like if at least the top fans had red LED's to accent the top half of the components (there is a 12" cold cathode on the bottom).
....but whatever works best! This is honestly the first time out of all the builds I've done that I've cared about attention to the fans.

Thanks

As far as the 230mm fans, you are stuck with the stock fans. There aren't many options for case fans that size.
Do you have a budget? Are you more concerned with airflow or noise?

Yea there really aren't many 230mm fans. All i can think of are the stock Cooler Master fans. IMO I would just load up some 120mm Yate Loons for about $6 each and call it a day. Mediums would work well since they're quiet.

I mean I'm not going to spend 50$ a fan....and Air flow/cooling is more important to me than noise. TBH, noise really doesn't even bother me, I hate quiet anyways.

Also, I figured I could get some kind of fan controller anyways so I could turn them down at night?

Any suggestions on the fans then, and possibly a fan controller too?

Here's a 230mm fan to replace your stock: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=30947

No idea how they perform, but Bitfenix is generally known to be a pretty decent brand these days.

Honestly, I'd prefer to go with multiple smaller fans than one large fan

Yate Loons are actually great fans and even better for the price. They push about the same CFM and static pressure as Gentle Typhoons but a little louder. Gentle Typhoons will run you around $18 each compared to $6 for Yate Loons.

My favorite fans are Silverstone Air Penetrators. You can get them in 120mm or 140mm. They force the air straight out instead of "fanning" the air out. I have 4x 120mm on my side panel.
The fan controller I chose was a Lamptron FC-5 v2 because it can handle 30w per channel and I have 13 fans all up. Google these and you'll find them.

If you don't care about noise, high speed Yate Loons! Those on a fan controller is win.

From what I've read, Sunbeam Rheosmart 6 is also a solid choice. I have one that's arriving in a couple days.
