Good monitor for movies, photos? IPS, VA? Dell U2311, Asus ML239H/ML249H?

Trying to decide on a monitor here. My main aim is something that is good at playing movies and displaying photos (and editing, but not professionally). My 21" high-end, 1999-vintage CRT that I snapped up cheap years ago is going kaput.

Right now I'm of three different minds on it.

Cheaper IPS:
Dell U2311H- 23" e-IPS, or
Asus ML239H- 23" e-IPS, same panel us U2311H, LED backlit.

Or a VA panel:
Samsung 2333t 23" 16:9 6-bit c-PVA $180
Benq EW2420 24" 16:9 8-bit MVA $300?
Asus ML249H 24" 16:9, $230 - same panel as the Benq

I liked the sound of things (I watch a lot of dark, shadowy movies so I like the good black depth bit) but nervous about ghosting;I don't really game much, so if its not a problem for movies then that's OK. Also heard some bad things about quality-control, except maybe the Asus which doesn't seem to have many reviews.

Lastly, thinking of a somewhat more high end, 8 bit+ IPS panel with 16:10 aspect ratio:
HP ZR24W $410
Dell U2410 $500?
Asus PA246Q $480?

Wondering if thats overkill for my purposes, though. Also, how bad is this IPS glow that people talk about? ..

Also, would I be better getting a better TN panel than a cheaper IPS/VA? Or would a refurb of a more expensive monitor be a good idea? ($500 is about max for me)

Anyway, if anyone has any other suggestions that would also be cool. Thanks!
