First build, what do you think?

Thread Starter
Okay so I am diving into building a computer with little knowledge about it all. My old HP desktop isnt working anymore so instead of fixing it i decided to build myself a nice computer.

Heres what I'm planning on putting into it. If anything looks like it wont work or if you have any other suggestions please let me know.

Case: NZXT Phantom White

CPU: i5 2500k

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4-B3

Power Supply: Corsair HX850w

Video Card: Thinking about getting the EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi)

OS: Windows 7

Hard Drive: I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with this yet. I'm waiting for some advice from another post then I'll decide.

Memory: GSkill Ripjaws X 2x4GB 1600

Drive: Samsung 22x DVD Burner

CPU Cooler: Thinking about the Zalman CNPS9900MAX-B 135mm or the Corsair H60. What one do you think would be better?

I want to overclock it to 4.5 in the future.

Looks pretty good. You could knock down the PSU to a good 650watt and still be good, but if you want to sli/crossfire later keep that.

For HDD: Get a simple F3 spinpoint 1tb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...f3%20spinpoint

I have 2 in 2 different builds, and they work great!

I have the h70, not sure if its the same or like the h60, but I really like it! I suggest getting some aftermarket fans for it though for push - pull, like some gentle typhoons! (;

Thank you, I want to do sli in the future so I was trying to plan ahead a bit. Plus I got the psu for 140 and it was cheaper than the 750 at the time so I figured it was a steal

Ill definitely take the spinpoint into consideration, I've been looking at that or the Western digital black 1tb.

Thank you

Very nice build!

Good taste of cooler too it holds my temps below 70c @ 4.8ghz overclock.

I recommend you buy a samsung spinpoint f3 7200rpm 1tb hdd drive for this build. it's quicker than the wd drive, apart from that all is ok

Enjoy

+1 for F3 spinpoint 1tb

This looks really similiar to my build, see sig rig, few varieties though, as I went the 560 2gb as I plan to SLI it for multi monitor gaming! :-)

Do you plan on going multi monitor, or >1080p?

Looks like a nice solid build mate, I would definitely suggest an SSD to add in there, you can get a c300 64gb for sub 100 these days, or a 128gb for games of Photoshop as well... The c300 series are beasts for random read's(important for OS daily operation).

Apart from that, it looks like you've done your research! The UD4 is a sexy board in person as well as in pictures! :-D

Cheers Ishi

I am personally a huge fan of the Western Digital caviar series. I have 4 2T caviar greens for a home media server and 3 1T Caviar Blacks in various computers that i have built for myself and others in my family. I have never had a single problem out of any of them... My favorite is the Caviar Green because it is so cheap. Not the fastest read write by any stretch of the imagination though. If it is speed you want, go for the Caviar Black or spring for an SSD (recommend using one as a boot drive anyway). Good luck on your build! Show us some pics when you get done, I'm sure it will be sweet.
I would deff go for the H60 CPU cooler. I have never liked much of anything Zalman ever made (personal preference more than quality) but if you are looking for a 4.5 OC that is reliable and stable through whatever you throw at it (Prime 95 would be a good example) you might want to think about something a little stouter. I would recommend the XSPC Rasa 750 RS360. I have had the XSPC setup for the past year and it has been great. just don't use anything but distilled water and a kill coil in your loop. I am selling my XSPC Rasa 750 RS360 right now because I am doing some major upgrades but since i painted the radiator and fan covers blue to match my previous build, I am not sure it would fit your color scheme.

Wouldn't you say a xspc 360 rad setup is a tad overkill for a modest 4.5ghz overclock on sandybridge

I like it though, if if the op can afford such luxury

Temps never go above 70c with my zalman cooler @ 4.8ghz and temps just about touch 60c @ 4.5ghz
