RV03 Exhaust Fan

Thread Starter
Hi I want to replace the exhaust fan on my Silverstone Raven RV03 to get some better temps.

The current stock exhaust fan is rated at 900rpm @ 18dBa and is 120mm. It's the only exhaust fan and I'm not quite what cfm it is. I want to put this into the HDD mounting area behind the motherboard.

The case has two bottom intake fans which are the AP 181's. They are rated at 700rpm/18dBa on low and 1200rpm and 34dBa full speed and are 180mm. They focus airflow into a column leading directly to the GPU, CPU and exhaust fan rather than spreading out.

I have no idea what's more important in an exhaust fan in this scenario; cfm, rpm or static pressure. I know that noise levels should be 18dBa or lower so they won't be louder than the intakes or the current stock exhaust fan.

With this airflow design what would you guys recommend as an exhaust fan? Not too concerned with price.

Thanks!

Forgot to mention, this is the selection of fans I have at my disposal that are ~18dBa on low speed and 120mm.

What do you want better temps on? Without knowing this, in general I'd recommend putting some front intakes rather than an improved exhaust.

More ambient air taken in will result in a higher positive pressure inside the case, forcing air up and out on the RV03. And the first air up and out will be the hot air, effectively making your case exhaust more effectively.

I'm using a Noiseblocker PWM fan on my exhaust, a M-12PS, with a fan profile set to increase speed when certain components reach critical temps.

Better ambient temps inside the case, better hdd temps (stock exhaust will go here) and most importantly cpu temps.

I haven't got a cooler yet but I plan on getting the H100 and putting it in the front drive bay if that will be possible. If that is, then I'll have it intake cool air through the front and exhaust hot air into the case which will immediately get exhausted through the top (hopefully). Otherwise maybe make top intake and have the H100 exhaust out the front? So yeah I want a pretty powerful fan if it comes to this.

I emailed my fave New Zealand online store and hopefully they will start selling the noiseblocker range. They seem pretty solid for the job.

So far I'm quite satisified with CPU cooling performance using a single-fan conventional air cooler (the Tuniq Tower Extreme 120, with Noiseblocker M-12P) and the aforementioned exhaust fan. I have two 120mm fans installed as intake fans on the front bays but I found they aren't really necessary and they are currently disconnected.

So the AP-181 below the CPU is the only intake feeding the CPU cooler, and so far the CPU is doing fine, although YMMV based on over-volting, cooler, and ambient temps.

Is that front or back of the bay though?

I like the extra fan options the RV03 has, but they seem pretty useless in aiding overall performance. I brought mine back for a refund a while ago, because my AXP was just not cooling as good as in my Antec, despite 1 extra AP-14 fan.

My front intake fans are installed towards the motherboard, but as I said they are disconnected.

I think if you are looking for max CPU cooling the front bay fan options could help bring cooler air where you need it, but I don't think they'll help GPU temps at all.

I'm not pushing my CPU much at all so found I didn't need the extra front intake fans. Taking them out now that the CPU cooler is installed is a pain, so they are staying in for now.

Meh. Raven. Outstanding concept. I note that the wise designers did not obstruct the airpath with an accused grill. Compared temps with your current setup and with no exhaust fan.

If the temps are the same, you have the same temps with one less fan and less noise. If you have better temps, then you have better with one less fan and less noise.

All of your choices are good ones. Have fun with your rig.
