6950 making my psu cry, new psu advice needed

Thread Starter
hi all!
i just bought a MSI R6950 2gb Twin Frozr III.
after upgrading to this videocard my computer constantly freezes within 5-60 minutes. (world of warcraft, all setings max and dx11 enabled)

My current psu Antec neopower HE550, only delivers 18A on 12V rail, and what ive read on internet, the 6950 needs 24A

any advice on which PSU to get?
this is a list of psu`s available here in holland: http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/cat/6...lRhKyBI9lpTSHw

would be nice if there is some room to overclock the videocard and my Q9550, still stock speed.

kind regards,
Avaadore

The Antec Truepower 750, or the Corsair TX850W look good to me for the price, and will leave you with headroom. obviously, you can go higher then that if you wanted to pay more, but its not nessessary.

A 750W would be perfectly fine, but that corsair 850 watt is very cheap on that site, if i were buying, id get that, just my opinion though.

I'd go with a 750W But try and stay away from cheap PSU's even though sometimes it is very tempting. Go for Gold/Silver rating also. Personally have had bad experiences with cheaper ones and PSU's haven't changed in like 10 years so a good one now will definitely last the test of time.

Except it's not modular or even semi-modular. That may not matter for the OP though.

What is your budget? If anything goes then you could get a top quality unit such as the Seasonic X-650, which could very easily run your system. You would still have enough room to overclock and add a dozen of fans or HDD's.

In fact, any good quality 550w unit could run your system such as the Antec Truepower New TP-550.

i dont have a budget, but the price should be reasonable, in compare to the graphics card is just bought for 260 euro.
paying the same for a psu would be a bit overkill

ill have a look at the seasonic aswell
