Help Major Problems in New Build - Page 4

Is there a "MemOK" or "GoButton" on that board? Pretty sure there is.

Find it, power up when it beeps at you push the button and your system should boot up at min spec(1333) and give it a bit your board should get the required info off the RAM to get it to run properly. If nothing else you at least have it at 1333 until you go back into the BIOS to adjust your settings. If it fails once you've adjusted, hit reset(if it doesn't reboot) enter the BIOS and set it back to 1333.

Pretty sure this is your issue since your RAM is not on the QVL. I went through the same thing with my RAM on my Formula.

Nvm would help if I read further down.

Still 500w is a little lean in the power spectrum. If you have a bigger PSU handy(someone you know maybe?) you might try that to see if your problems iron out.

Update... I remember a weird ram issue I had when building my sig rig, where to get the ram to work properly I had to boot the computer instages...

First stage I had one stick in slot 3, then I put one stick in each slot individually (booting each time)... After that I put one stick in slot 1 and one stick in slot 3, the slot 2 & 4, eventually working towards both sticks in slot 1&2 (dual channel) and it worked.

I only have two slots in this board, but I just booted with one stick in slot 2... Im running prime95 now and its working, although its weird cause worker 1 is on the 3rd test, worker 2 is on the 4th test, worker 3 is on the 5th... Wait some just failed... And prime stopped working... Oh well I thought I might have been onto something here...

Update..

I just downloaded and installed HWmonitor... Now under prime the cores got to 58 degrees before the computer BSOD... The BSOD message was "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

But those temps seem really high? I know its only the stock cooler but Ive read that a 955 gets unstable above 55 degrees in which case this could be the problem...

that BSOD is memory or IMC related...my guess is the RAM is either bad or a dimm slot doesnt work.

the AMD chips are fine to ~62C so 58 is alright, but really bad for stock settings honestly. you may want to re-seat it with some new TIM

The V8 is my computer, this thread is about a computer Im building for my mate which is just stock cooler etc...
So that BSOD is memory... Hmmm...

Just reposting the build Im talking about:
I just put together this new build:
AMD Phenom II 955
A-Ram Ice 2x2gb DDR1600
Gigabyte MA78LMT-S2
ATi HD5770
500gb HDD
500w PSU

One other question... The Stock HSF was a real female dog to get on... Like I had to push down a bit to get both the hooks onto the plastic frame on the motherboard... And then locked the hsf handle...
Is this bad? How firmly should it be against the CPU?

Update
Put his ram into my machine and got it running (had to put it some unused slots first, and set bios to default)
Anyway with his ram in my machine I ran Prime blend for half n hour no problems... I also ran memtest86 no problems...
However... My ram in his computer still crashed within a few minutes of Prime...
So can we safely assume that the ram sticks are fine? Which only leaves the motherboard and the processor?

increase the Voltage to the ram 1 increment and try again (still convinced this is a ram issue i know you have done repeated testing )

I seriously doubt the RAM is fine.

Wanna know how to install Memtest on a USB disk? It's easy.

k, find a USB disk. Go to your "Computer" and format the USB disk into FAT settings.

Next, go to the memtest site: http://www.memtest.org/

Download the file called "Download - Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7)." There should be a flashy red "New" symbol on it.

Install the program onto your USB drive.

Boot up from your USB drive (usually by mashing F12 during bootup.)

If the memory can pass 10 passes of memtest, you can rule it out. Otherwise, no. Prime is not a good method to test memory.

Oh, and calm down -_-

I have done a memtest using a bootcd... It passed...

Plus when I put my ram (which I know works fine) into his computer (the problem one) it still crashed same as before...

Sounds like the motherboard then. Begin an RMA process.
