every ram is sdram (synchronous dynamic ram) but generally they are referred to non ddr ram in today's terms
today we have ddr2 and ddr3 which are common
so you'l have to buy ddr2 as your motherboard supports that one only

we didnt get the budget again

Im rollin a q8300 @ 3ghz right now on the PC im typing on. (PC#2, not sigrig) and I can say, The thing's very fast.

- Very easy to OC to 3ghz too.

Are you on win 7 x64? If you go to 4gigs ram (and you should) 32 bit OS will only read 3.25 of it.
As for cooler, That one seem's ok but IDK anything about it. You can order a Hyper 212+ or a Hyper n520 (which is what cools my q8300 no problems) for same or less.

I like Antec power supplies, you'll be happy with that but while your's is getting old I dont think you need to spend the money on one yet. I have a 5 year Antec 450w PSU in this PC (Again, #2 PC with the q8300)

Also, when you upgrade your RAM make sure that you're buying DDR2 and that the frequency is supported by your mobo.

I have no experience with that cooler. Depending on the price I'd suggest switching it out with a CM212+. For the $20 you can get it for it's the best on the market.

And no, you will not bottleneck.
If you read closely, you see that I recommended a 750 watt so that it would last through another cpu and gpu upgrade as well as further overclocking of the cpu. I didn't realize how limited the budget was because he didn't post budget in the first post.

ok so you nay opt for this power supply here

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139018

this might look like an overkill for a 5830 or 6870 but it is a little future proof and you can run little more powerful cards on this one too

now that leaves you with $180 for card
within this, you can now opt for this 6870 if you can add $8 more

for nvidia, you can get gtx 560 if you add $10 more

if not, no issues, 6850 for $170

or gtx 460 SOC for $170, or a normal one for $160

i suggest gtx 560 as it pawns them all

also, check tigerdirect, i see the cards are cheaper there

PSU if anything, you really don't need anything large but a 500w is cutting. Definitely if its from a cheaper off brand name.

I recommend an AMD phenom 955. Cheap and you can oc much higher than a q8300. You'll have to get a different mobo though. Also, 4gb ram is recommended for newer games like Dirt 3 to avoid skipping or really low framerates.

What the hell are you talking about? He already has the CPU. He just wants more memory and a better GPU and possibly a better PSU.

He'd be a chump to "upgrade" to a Phenom II right now. It'll need replacing just as quick as his 8300, even if overclocked.
