Windows 7 Download Folder 'Location Unavailable'

Thread Starter
Ok this isn't a major issue but for some reason the Download folder on my new PC cannot be accessed anymore :S I tried to access it from the explorer shortcut in the left hand part of the window and I got an error message saying 'Location is unavailable' or something like that, saying it couldn't be found.

This happened after I downloaded a modloader file for minecraft and decided I didn't need it so deleted it before using it.
I ran a virus scan just to make sure it wasn't something like that, and that came back saying PC was clean.

I downloaded the stuff that was in folder that I couldn't access after the download folder became inaccessible and it just formed another download folder in my My Documents, so I just deleted the original download folder pathnames/shortcuts and replaced them with shortcuts to this new download folder, which seems to have returned it to normal.

I'm just wondering why on earth this might have happened? I'm wondering just so that this doesn't happen to an important folder with work in it or something.

Thanks in Advance!

It can happen when your profile becomes corrupted somehow and you would just need to reassign rights to the folder. It can also happen when you have a bad sector on your disk. I would run a check disk on your hard drive to see if there are any other fixes.

If it's your windows drive, open command prompt and type chkdsk /R. It will ask to do it the next reboot and just say yes.

Thanks +Rep I never thought of a bad sector on disk, that'd make sense in that the download being deleted or something could have corrupted a sector of the disk, I assumed it was rights or something but that didn't work, I'll do that later and that should show if thats what it was
Thanks again!

Yup definitely run a chkdsk. If you run it like this "chkdsk c: /r/v" the /v argument puts it in verbose mode which will give you more detailed output of what's going wrong. But yea definitely sounds like a filesystem issue.
