Filco Ninja vs Leopold tenkeyless

Thread Starter
I'm in the market for a mech, something tenkeyless and clean, with a simple design and high build quality. I'm currently thinking the Filco Ninja FKBN87M/EFB2, when it is released, but I also like the Leopold tenkeyless FC200RT/AB.

To me, both boards look very similar (besides the obvious keycaps). Both have brown switches, the same layout and general shape/size. Leopold has laser/infill and Majestouch Ninja has front printed keys. Both are rather minimal.

Is there any reason I shouldn't shell out $40 more for the Filco Ninja?

For me, you can't go wrong with either one. Leopold is a little cheaper and TBH, the quality is also subpar to Filco's. I'd recommend it as a first mech board to my friends and then when they get a taste of what it's like, they can go out and spend more on Filco or other brands.

In short, if you don't mind spending $40 more then go for the Filco. I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed.

I'm liking the front print format on the Ninja.

What does that have to do with anything? The typing experience will be the same, apart from the difference in LED lighting and where the letters are positioned.

Build quality is a major factor is you're dealing with something designed to last this long and honestly I'm pretty sure I could smash my Filco on my desk and not do anything to it.

If I just wanted "a keyboard" - I'd buy a $10 USB Dell OEM.

The layout is pretty much identical, and the boards are very similar. In such situations, I question price disparities, and investigate so I feel comfortable in understanding what kind of value I am gaining or losing for each.

Have you used the Leopold boards?

I'll probably get the Ninja, but it doesn't hurt to hear what others have to say about the choices.
