Compare 7800GS with GT 430 NVIDIA Graphics Cards

Thread Starter
Im a noob at this stuff please tell me which is better I have a:
7800 GS GeForce 512MB NVIDIA graphics card and I want to compare it with:
EVGA 1GB GeForce GT 430 DDR3 NVIDIA Graphics Card

Im planning on buying it, but I need to be sure it will be good value. It is currently priced at £48.52 (78.72 US$) which I think is good value.

I will use it for gaming, games such as portal 2 on high video settings with no lag.
Thanks

That will help you a bit. It looks like the GT430 is going to be much better overall.

As far as maxing out Portal 2, that may depend on some other factors. (CPU, monitor resolution, etc)

OK thanks yeah that helped.
Would:
AMD Athlon II X3 450 3.2GHz Socket AM3 95w 1.5MB L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor
Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G Socket AM3 DVI VGA Out 8 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard
Corsair 430W CX PSU 4x SATA 1x PCI-E
and GT430
max out portal 2 and are these all compatible with the graphics card?

What resolution is your monitor? I would think the GT430 would do well on 1680x1050 or 1440x900. But if you have 1920x1080 or greater, you will most likely have to turn settings down just a little bit. I could be wrong though.

Here is a good comparision on the 400 cards unless your budget is very tight i would say best bang for your buck is a gtx 460. I have a 768 gtx 460 and i play rift on ultra and get very good framerates. Up to 80 in places and as low as 45 in populated areas. While that card will be much better than your 7900 i still think you will struggle with high video settings in newer games.

Thanks Corky.
Conzilla, its a 7800.
Im thinking I should keep the 7800 for as long as possible and later on getting the gtx 460 for a cheaper price rather than buying 430 then later 460. As this seems cheaper. Im already spending money on the other hardware and I dont want to spend loads on a graphics card if the one I have is still good enough. I dont mind not maxing out on games all I really need is no lag and reasonable graphics.
thanks for the help
