If they acted faster too coming out and saying "Hey, we got hacked!", many wouldn't have felt betrayed or lied to when they dropped that bombshell.
First, I will say that Sony's handling of the Geohot thing was pretty stupid and a huge over reaction.

I am not trying to be mean/rude/offensive but, as far as "had it coming" that is personal opinion. I personally believe all companies "have it coming" in some way or another. I am not going to start naming names because, that is a flame war waiting to happen. I will summarize by saying that a lot of companies do a lot of things I do not like for reasons that disgust me.

Second, I do actually understand their desire to understand the scope of the hack before alerting everyone in the world http://gamer.blorge.com/2011/05/06/s...lysis-process/ It does show they are more in control than a generic letter stating they don't have any idea what is going on. I also read another letter where one of the CEO employee's pointed out that PSN customers were actually alerted FASTER than average. I am trying to find that one now. However, I think there is a general misunderstanding in the public that there is a magical method written somewhere in the code to automatically detect problems and email the end user that they have been hacked and all the details of it..

Third, I have read endless articles posted by every company out there repeating the same, often incorrect information just looking to cash in on the situation. Reporters who probably don't have any clue about internet security repremanding sony is something I find a lot of irony in.

A lot of the actual PSN users seem if not happy, at least reasonably tempered about the subject. Sure there are trolls about as always.. However, there is a huge attempt to create a black eye on sony.

I am not saying it is entirely undeserved.. but, I am saying sony deserves a black eye for the right reasons.

No body has bothered to read the few reports that have come back stating Sony's servers were up to date, there are very few cases of information stolen actually being used, or anything else.

I think sony's biggest problem in this entire event is a failure to squash rumors, and say out right "here is what did infact happen".

Sony has become autistic in terms of communicating with its customers. I do wish sony would turn around some.. they have made some wonderful products and could give a lot of companies much needed competition.

Sadly, they seem to have forgotten how to market, and effectively communicate on anything more than a basic level.

Also.. I love how everyone is talking crap about sony... It is amazing how when sony gets hacked everyone on the internet is suddenly an expert on security measures.

Oh well just reminds me of windows vs apple. All malware on windows now days is considered a "Virus" even the most proficient computer users seem to go with the generalized terminology.

Yet, if you talk about mac and say it has a virus, your going to be corrected 12 times by people denying it has a "virus" and they will say "It is x not y!" even if at the end of the day mac still now has and will have more malware.

Not trying to start a flame war here.. only pointing out the irony of how people seem to love putting themselves and what they like above everyone else...

At the end of the day there are pro's and con's to everything. Oh well I guess it is too much to take a step back and realize that even your own "perfect solution" has flaws.

good luck trying to convince anyone your not a fanboy trying to start a flamewar when your post doesn't mention the article or even XBOX for that matter, i mean come on.

Pfff Microsoft ain't any better. I canceled my gold membership(paying for something that should be free? haha, no) and have just been using the free one and out of the blue I get emailed a confirmation for purchasing 2 months of gold for $2. Huh? $2 isn't a big deal but to do it without my consent pisses me off. For some reason it hasn't appeared on my bank account yet so I'm just going to keep using it but if it does I'm going to call them and get it reversed.

I quit a couple years ago an constantly have emails about getting some more time cheap lol I never go for it. I had 4 RROD with the console sitting in the middle of the room on top of a table and I gave up. I also agree Live should be free. I am just glad it is on PC!

I like how you equate a few hours of spot-downtime for some American XBL users as Sony getting hacked 6 times in 26 days and 22 days of pure world-wide downtime.

There is a reason Sony's troubles were reported, they were actual troubles. XBL goes down for maintenance every so often in some areas, or for upgrades. This is not news worthy, who cares.

You know.. I would honestly think people would believe I was a sony fanboy more if I outright started bashing xbox.

I made my point very clear. Everything has its ups and its downs and squabbling over "whats better" is pointless.

Your the only one in this thread who has even brought that up. If you read the rest of the thread, you will see I am a somewhat neutral figure, enjoying an over all rational, logical conversation with other gamers of different perspective.

I didn't equate their situation to anything. Fact is, a service that costs money had an unexpected outage and now I am super furious! I hope Microsoft gets what they have coming, and falls to the ground to more superior companies. I'm tired of them stealing all my money and not caring about their customers. They are an evil corporation that makes inferior products!
