You can do it but it will ask you to verify that your copy of windows is genuine. ive done it plenty of times and didnt have to reinstall any drivers

It will work, but realistically do a clean install if you don't your gonna have old drivers on your computer that will mess things up eventually. there is no harm ever in doing a clean install, in fact it's a good thing.

Usually it breaks, or becomes unstable, I've been between 3 setups on one install of Windows, eventually it did go, but it did still work.

But yeah, if you want to guarentee it will work straight off it's best to reinstall.

Same here, no problems and i swap out a good bit of boards every month. Worst case would be that you would need to reactivate the os.

If he is using th P67 for the OS storage controller, it would be the same driver already.

Having old drives will not "mess things up eventually". If a device is no longer installed, those drivers will just not be loaded. If the device is installed, it will use the drivers.... as it did before.

In typical situations, there is no need to reinstall Windows after a motherboard change, granted it isn't a huge difference like an AM2 socket board going to an i7 setup.

However, with that said, it's always a perfect time to reformat anyway! lol, I'm addicted to reformatting and setting up OS's. Once every couple of months, just for fun? Yup..

who cares, why would we even guess... if it is not the exact same motherboard, he should reinstall. if he has a decent computer it shouldnt take him long at all. reinstalling windows updates is a piece of cake if you have a good connection.

OP, if your copy of Windows 7 is OEM, it is legally tied to your motherboard. You cannot transfer the license to another computer, which is what a new motherboard qualifies as to Microsoft.

If it's retail, you'll have no problems.
