PC games with console elements?

Ok, So i have a pc for gaming and a ps3 for its awesome exclusives.. (inFamous has cocaine incorporated in the code.. I swear)

At any rate.. its been a while since I used my ps3 but, I tried out the little big planet demo on my ps3 last night and I noticed something. It was fun. It was amazingly awesome fun.

I love playing a huge variety of games and its been a while since I was able to just enjoy goofing around on any game. As I ran through the level I noticed the amount of detail that went into it.. I noticed that there were a lot of physics effects, I noticed there was a lack of seriousness altogether and it was just out right fun.

I usually play games on my PC because, I feel pc is the superior gaming platform especially when it comes to more "serious" games. I love Stalker CoP, L4d2, Half Life 2, and I enjoyed Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and a huge list of games..

However, I find that they all lack a certain "polished" feeling from inFamous or little big planet. its not entirely all in the physics effects either.. There is something about the story telling, the composure of the game and the game play style that I am not quite sure I have ever felt was successfully captured on the PC.

InFamous for example has psychic hobo's and trash robots.. which sounds so crazy and well borderline stupid in terms of story line.. but, by the end of the game.. they have strung the story line together so well... that you are just left amazed with it. While I do think the PC has a long list of great games.. I suddenly feel like some corner stone of PC gaming has never really been there.. some of my most memorable and beloved games are from consoles..

Breath of fire III, Wild ARMS 2, Megaman Legends 2, inFamous, God Of War series, Golden Sun series, and the list goes on..

As a gamer I do find that I am a PC elitist in many senses.. I prefer my death adder for any and all online gaming.. Sennheiser 598's are also so much funner to play with than tv speakers, The steam overlay is just so darn useful when it comes to talking to people in game... There are a few games on PC I don't mind that are offline.. Mass effect series, Metro, ect...

however, I feel like for offline game play.. the consoles just seem to have some element that PC has never really mastered..

Anyone else feel this way? or have some recommendations?

Hmm. I have to disagree with you. At the end of mass effect 2. I actually felt like the world was on my shoulders and that one little mistake would break it. No other game has ever made me just go wow.

And for that matter. Portal 2 had me laughing just like a movie. Dragon age had me questioning my motives. Just cause 2 let me go loose.

Sure these are on console as well. But with a pc I feel it's more immersive. It's just you and a small screen. With a keyboard and mice directing the story and game. Consoles just don't do it for me anymore.

Then again. I will never have a good spyro game again. Feelsbadman.

Stop expecting more as a PC gamer.

Because the only thing we should get more is Dedicated servers, and better graphics. Which only comes because the consoles play on a lower setting.

I actually feel the opposite, the only game that i ever felt like i was a part of the story on a console was bioshock. After playing several games on consoles i bought them on steam for super cheap like borderlands when it was $8 and it just felt better on pc. Like you said mass effect was just amazing. (no real reason for that but i just loved it so much)

Really i think it just depends on the game infamous and LBP are just really good games that the developers put a lot of care into.

PC Gaming is about achieving better graphics and more customization over everything , thats it , at least to me. I love pc gaming because its always ahead of the game then consoles ( i own a wii , ps3 and 360 ). They may have there exclusives but so do we and we can play 99% of there games with 10x better graphics and customization.

Honestly if its fun that is all I care about, I do not care if it looks like Crysis/Metro 2033.
Of course when it does look way better on PC I will enjoy it, but I never get my hopes up.

Why does it have to be a small screen?
Depending on my mood I either play it on my monitor or TV and depending on the game I sometimes use a controller.
For example racing games or even Just Cause 2 I had a better time using my 360 controller than my keyboard.

The whole "You have to use a keyboard/mouse or it isn't PC gaming" is getting old around here.

That was always the case already from the 80s. It is just that pcs or hybrids (eg amstrad, spectrum, amiga 500) at that time were having more mature games with better story telling than consoles. Fortunately the gap has shortened now and console gamers can get a glimpse of pc gaming.
I mean as a kid i had an nes. If some neighbours kids hadnt an amiga i would have missed the best games at that time.
Fortunately consoles caught on later on mature games.
Now we can play easily games of both worlds.

Have you tried playing with a gamepad, while using your TV screen as a monitor? Do this with AC2 for example (I do, and it's great). You can get the console-like-experience in this way, and keep the better graphics. PC is all about possibilities.

AC2 on PC? great
Warcraft III on consoles? never
