[Kotaku] Aion 2.5 Live may 25th - Page 4

No Korean-made MMO will allow you to get on with your life or play it "casually"....if you want to get anywhere in the game that is.

Games like WoW cater to casuals, which is the primary reason why the game is still sustaining 12million+ subscriptions. Rift is *attempting* to follow in it's footsteps.
You can start a new character in WoW and be ready for full-on raiding/PvP in just a few weeks, whereas in Aion you need to spend 500 hours before you see anything decent....and trust me, you will get over the pretty graphics fairly quickly once you realize how much of a grind you have in front of you.

2.5 seems to be adding a ton of cosmetic things....

500 hours later I was a level 37 cleric.

Never again.
O_o my buddies an I reached 38 by public launch day.

The only thing I miss about Aion is the flight. The core game mechanics are still the same so I wont be going back for round two.

From launch till 4-5 months after and gave up. Got banned without any reason as to why or what I did wrong. No response back to tickets either. After being banned once already in the huge wave of "accidental" bans then getting banned again, I left that craphole. The content in the game was pretty dry as well.

How does a game being a Massively Multiplayer Online mean that it has to be an insane grind fest? There needs to be a good balance between leveling speed and difficulty. From what I have read it seems the Aion really missed the mark when it was released. This lead to the current state of the game.

Exactly. It appears that ncsoft didn't realize that a grind fest MMO doesn't do well in the western world. It has taken them years to slowly westernize the game. If they had just spent another year adding content (westernization) beforethey released Aion they would be in a much better situation today. However, as the games population shows that at this point in time it is too little too late.

It looks like the main point of the 2.5 patch is the graphics engine update. From what I have seen in videos it appears that it doesn't really add much content.

Aion looks cool, and I was going to check it out. However, IMO it isn't worth $15 a month when there are other MMO's out there that are better. (Or free)

Personally, I expect Aion will either go F2P or close down the US servers some time in the next 3 - 5 years.

You realize there was about 4 other large updates previous to this right? anyways 2.5 is just a stepping stone to the 3.0 update which is going to bring most of the big changes to the game.

Really fun looking armor sets, characters and awesome fight scenes (imagine crazy cool manga fighting styles, I love it even tho I hate manga).
Really crappy population and imbalance between factions, that's what made me quit in the first place.
It should go F2P to increase population number.
