computer freezing

Thread Starter
Alright, first off I wasn't sure where to put this...

Here's the problem:

My computer boots up fine, makes it past the bios, but when it gets to the win7 loading screen where the windows icon starts to initialize, it freezes. No mobo codes to go by. I've tried resetting the bios and testing out my ram, none of which worked. Im thinking it's a dead hdd, but I don't have another computer to test it on, so I don't really know. Any thoughts?

That was my first thought too, test memory. Have you tried safe mode? Did you change any drivers or install any new hardware?

You may want to setup your hardware correctly in the bios since you cleared it. The only time I ever clear CMOS is when I have a post error.

ram checks out fine, safe mode doesn't work, and no new drivers or hardware

whats weird is that I reformatted and reinstalled windows b/c I thought it might be corrupt, well after reinstalling it booted up fine, so then I restarted and am having the same issue again... getting frustrating

I think it is a driver issue. Try to install again and make sure to install your latest chipset drivers for your board. I would try to install all the major components that you can in your first boot.

Also, setup your bios correctly before you install windows. If you are going to use ACHI mode, set it up in the bios first.

You did a memtest86 run in an hour?

You need to let it run longer.

alright I'm running memtest now, how many passes should i run? 10?

update: ran 10 passes of memtest w/ no errors. Also, I tried booting into safe mode, and surprisingly it works, still won't boot into normal windows though. I'm running out of ideas.
