need help picking between 2 laptops

Ok, ive known id be getting a new laptop for some time now, and i figured i would pick one out of the myriad of options out there. I would get one from here, but since my grandmother is paying, she refuses to spend money on used hardware (and because of that i have to let slip a damn good machine).

So after digging througn newegg to find a machine that isnt a flaming piece of crap, i found these two.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152219
MSI FX400-062US Notebook Intel Core i5 480M(2.66GHz) 14" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 325M

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152245
MSI CX640-071US Notebook - Intel Core i3 2310M(2.10GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M

Both look ok, have decent hardware, and are relatively cheap. Thing is, im trying to figure out which one would ultimately be the superior machine: the one with the sandy bridge 2.1ghz i3 and more powerful graphics, or the one with the arrandale 2.6ghz (with turbo to 3) and weaker graphics.

I intend on doing some gaming as well as folding (yes, i fully intend to fold on a laptop, i got a few tricks up my sleeve to keep it from melting), and i need to know which of the two would give me the best bang for my buck.

thanks for the time (and if you make any suggestions for a different machine, keep it under 750. Also, 1366x768 is the worst resolution ever)

Just my quick 2 cents: I like the first one because it has a more powerful processor and not necessarily weaker graphics. I think you could get away with about similar gaming on either of those. I don't think you will notice much of a distance between the two.
Good luck!

EDIT: badass avatar!
First GPU is DX10 and has slower clocks all around (might be able to get around that with overclocking, but IDK) while the second one has clock speeds a good 50% faster, + its DX11 capable. :/

Off to do more research.

I would suggest looking at sager laptops, for the money you can get a better processor with the same graphics and maybe even a better screen.

http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np3250-...wconfigure=yes

http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np5160-...wconfigure=yes

Please note that the laptops don't come immediately configured with an OS so that is an extra $80-$90 that you need to add to the base price. However, with this said, the first one would give you the gt 520m graphics and an i5-2410m processor.

Go for the first one, its got a better cpu.

But just save a little more money and buy this, this has got all the bells and whistles you want, also it has an LED 1920x1080 screen, better cpu, and gpu, and a lot more stuff.

too expensive, as nice as it is. im willing to stretch it to 800, but not much further.

How about these 2?

If you can add a little more on the 800 than these are probably the laptops you are looking for.

The newer i3 is only slightly slower on these generic benches than that last gen i5 despite the clock difference. This will mean better battery life plus better graphics on that MSI machine. I can't see much else at that price with discrete graphics, so might be the way to go.

You could tell her that laptop is new... I mean it comes with original box and manual, and heck I can repackage it perfectly.

Just sayin'
