Read this. You'll understand what I'm talking about.

Your previous PSU isn't as horrible, but it was very bad. It was a 400W unit.

Hm, sorry. No, i don't. It wasn't a cheap, unbranded PSU. Thermaltake is a respectable brand and reviews of that model seem positive. I don't see the relevance of that article. Do you have a link that says a Thermaltake TR2 RX 550W is actually a 400w PSU? I'm curious why you say that.

Yes, it is. Thermaltake makes horrible PSUs for the most part. There's no point in even arguing this.

The fact that it can only deliver 31A on its 12V rail being a "550W" PSU is already a red flag. It can only deliver around 380W on the 12V rail. Not only that, but it uses Passive PFC.

I know you want to defend it, but it's not good.

I can second the fact that Thermaltake makes horrible PSUs. It's a pretty well known fact that you should only really trust Seasonic, Antec, Corsair, PPC, in the sub 1000w market. It is also known that out of all of them, Thermaltake's are pretty bad. Not as bad as say, DiabloTek, but still bad.

Besides that, it is pretty common for lower quality PSU makers to rebrand lower wattage PSUs. It makes the development process easier. Even the AX750 is actually a x760, the x760 is, however, and exceptional PSU.

I don't want to defend it. It didn't work, remember

I couldn't give a monkeys about it, but i was curious why you said a 550w PSU was a 400w PSU, so i asked if you'd explain. I assuming you'd be able to back up what you were saying. You posted a link to a article that has nothing to do with it, so i'm guessing you can't. That's all.

Nothing to argue about. I'm gone.

I already told you why. It can only deliver 31A on the +12V rail, and it uses Passive PFC. The electrical quality of the components is pretty low as well, since it uses capacitors rated at 85C and not 105C.

OP, we actually have pretty similar systems minus the video cards. My current 630W PSU has no issues running my sig rig. CPU is unlocked and OC'd to 3.6 and I usually run the CF 6850's at 930/1150 when gaming. I've had no issues for the last 6 months.

Not sure if your current PSU will suffice. If you're going to upgrade, I'd personally recommend spending the few extra $$ and go with a quality 750 - 850W PSU. So many times I've thought of upgrading to CF 6950/70's but can't pull the trigger because I'll most likely have to upgrade my PSU again. Lesson learned to do it right the first time.

31*12 =372W + 50-80W on the other rails makes it at best a 450W model.
