2.0/2.1 for HTPC

I am currently looking for a pair of 2.0/2.1 for my HTPC/PS3 hooked up to my TCL 32" HDTV. I had my Z2300 hooked up, but whenever the volume got a bit high, it would distort.

My budget is around 150-200 depending if I can sell my Z2300 I have heard that I could buy a pair of M-Audio AV40(?) and just hook it up to my Z2300 sub. I searched and couldn't find any opinions on it so I wanted to come here and ask before I spend money.

Why does it distort? Is it playing sounds out of its frequency

I honestly do not know. It just distorts when the volume gets a little loud while watching movies/shows. I never blasted music or anything. It usually distorts when background music is playing.

The distorting came from when it was hooked up to the TV via Red/White Audio In while having a PS3 play the movies.
