I was actually thinking of getting an i7 9xx strictly due to the LGA mobos being much more reliable/stable etc. Also, the x16/x16 that's only on the SUPER high end 1155's.

Gah, I guess at this point it'll come down to the BD vs. SB battle whenever it's released.

Besides, I'm running on a stock Gateway from Best Buy right now, I think even things that look awful to most would be a HUGE upgrade, haha. Friggin' Lynnfield i7.. /cry
i'm planning to get one of the 8 cores and maybe an am3+ motherboard. but i might not, since it is possible for my crosshair 4 to do a bios flash to accept the AM3+ CPU

but it'll come down to less than 500(CPU+mobo), maybe it's good for you to wait until they lower the price/

And yet you can't get a 2500k? It's a good CPU. Wait a month if money is a issue.

Complicated issue with the money and how it's all working out right now, which is why I cracked down so hard on my budget.

Your going to buy dual 6970's and then throw them together with a processor that will bottleneck them like crazy, over $50 dollars??

Stop being cheap and get a 2500k system. You will be kicking yourself for not going with it when you find out your $700 worth of gpu's is handicapped by your processor.

Also, if you want to save money, don't get a 240gb ssd, huge waste of money. All you need is a 60gb with enough room to put your os + apps on. If you use photoshop or other storage hogs, get a 120gb.

Only high end servers need more than that, and buying an ssd to put games on is a waste of money, no performance increase.

Well if you were to buy any "upgrade" it would just be a waste of money. Just buy a new case, new motherboard, and you'll be set. The i7 870 is still a beastly processor especially when you OC it.

I've probably explained a lot of things poorly, but at this point my words (and my stupidity for putting together the sig rig far before I was finished tweaking) have been twisted a bit. So I'll just uh..

What? There's nothing wrong with your current rig, nothing whatsoever, except maybe the fact that it's OEM from the looks of things, but right now even at stock clocks your CPU is MORE than good enough for any game out there at the moment, don't even bother upgrading unless you have loads of spare $$$ to burn... Get a new PSU, your 6950/6970s or whatever cards you need/want and call it a day.
