How to see FPS?

This is an ultra-noob question I think.

How do I get games to display the FPS???

I wanted to test different games at different settings to see my FPS but I'm not sure how to do this. Is it in the game or a third-party software or...?

Depends on the game, but you can download a program called FRAPS to display FPS in any game you have.

If your in any game dealing with Steam bring down the developers console(~) then type in cl_showfps 1 to see fps in the upper right hand corner.
