Help: 2nd Dead NIC/LAN Card

Thread Starter
I need some help this is the second time my NIC card died, first it was my onboard and this time it was a PCI one I bought at Frys (I think 10-15 bucks)...

The way this one "died" was I had to unplug the ethernet cable from back, and upon doing that my PC went into BSOD mode...after restart device manager could not detect nic card and I tried installing the driver again - no cigar.

This card died after maybe 5 months since purchase.

What is wrong and what card do you recommend me getting?

Also: I always put my PC in sleep mode at night.

Ok, you have two died.

The question is, do you have any power issues, storms and/or lightning near your house? If the answer is yes to these then it's quite likely that the ethernet is getting surged. Therefore killing the cards and saving the mainboard. That happens alot actually.

The other thing that could be doing it is having the PC not shutdown, it shouldn't affect it at all. But to be safe I like to shut mine down. Especially if you do have power issues or anything like that there's more chance that something will happen to it while it's on.

Other then that I'm not to sure what would be causing it.

Actually we (in texas) have had some nasty thunderstorms yesterday and hence today it blew out mid day when I unplugged my ethernet odd...
