Hey all I just did a system recovery on my mothers friends hp pavilion a1210n desktop and it did the fresh install of win xp media..I cant connect to the internet (using cable modem/router hard wire). The onboard LAN is up to date and doesnt work and I also found an old Realtek NIC PCI ethernet card...installed it and the latest drivers and still nothing...device manager says all is up to date I am competely stumped. Any ideas?

do you happen to have an extra wireless apdapter? if you do I would install that so at least you can get internet access and then go ahead and update the rest of the stuff.

Go to the device manager and uninstall any network devices.

Control panel > System > Hardware tab > Device manager

Right click and click "Scan for hardware changes". It should detect the network device and install the driver.

I just had this exact same issue with my HP a1243w and this fixed it. Also, make sure Onboard LAN is enabled in the BIOS.
