The Reosmart PMW controllers??

Thread Starter
Hi all, I need some info about the Reosmart fan controller. This is not specific to water coolers but I felt that people who WC would be most likely to use and know the Reosmart fan controllers.

I am considering the Reosmart 3

It will be used to control 4 or 8 GT 1850 fans on a XSPC RX480.

So does anyone know how slow I can get those fans to run? Can I get the fans down to 1000 rpm, or even lower?

The specs put the voltage out from 0 to 12V so I assume it's possible to have the fans barely spinning when in manual mode. But what about the automatic mode? How slow can the fans run at minimum settings on auto?

Thanx and cheers!

Hey,

I just unboxed my Reosmart 3 from newegg. I have only messed around with it a little, but I can tell you a few things.

I used these fans:
1) GT ap 29 - 3000 RPM
2) Stock XSPC fans - Unknown RPM
3) Zalman F3 FDB - 1000-1500RPM

1) The knobs only activates my fans past 50% or in other words 7 o clock to 12 does nothing. When they do come on? Right at 12 o clock position, All 3 types fans are completely silent anyways because they are going so slow. So going any slower would be pointless anyways. So not so bad.
2) You can turn the fans completely off.
3) I am running 3 GT AP 29s off one channel and have had no problems so far.
4) The buttons to switch between Auto controlled PMW and Manual are cheap, and can misclick sometimes. When in manual a green light is on, when in Auto a red light is on.
5) I have not tried the PMW control yet.
6) Getting the fan connectors off of the back of the board is a PAIN!!!!
7) Comes with some good accessories, but not enough fan extensions.
8) So far I like it, so much so I will be returning it! smile.gif and getting the 6 channel one. Tomorrow or so i will be testing out the PMW controller. If I get everything done tonight.... augh

PM me if you have any more questions.

I have one of these. I like it, but I never could get the PWM working at all.

YMMV

So neither of you have the PMW feature enabled!
That's what interests me the most - the ability to have the system keep itself quiet when surfing and crank itself up when gaming/rendering/encoding.

I use a Lamptron FC-6 and it dials down my fans quite nicely. I'm sure you could use a FC-4 if you don't need all the knobs with similar performance.

I use the Rheosmart 6 from Sunbeamtech. I've had it for a few months now, and it has been working well. I've got it on Yate-Loon D12SH-124B fans (2200rpm), and they slow down to near-silent levels when reduced to a minimum, and at loudest they probably get up to ~2000 RPM. I have not been able to use the RPM sensor bypass cables successfully with the controller, but I don't know if it's because the fans have been rewired oddly or if it's the controller or what, but the RPM is reported incorrectly. I haven't tried other fans with that.

The PWM control is fantastic. I've got the fans using PWM from my mobo (P8P67 Pro) on the CPU PWM spot, and have the temp/rpm slider set in Asus AI suite on a custom curve. It rarely gets up to 70% speed, even on full folding it doesn't go past there.

Manual control works just fine when I hit the button on the front and use the knobs.

These fans go from 0-100 (though they never stop spinning) just fine on manual or auto PWM control. I do have a pair of 120x38mm 2000rpm Panaflo fans, and they stop at about the 10:30-11:00 position of the controller, but they do not click at lower speeds, they're smooth all the way up. When I plug any fans straight into a header, they're a little higher pitched (receiving more power) than the controller gives at 100%, so I'd say it probably goes up to 11-11.5v at max power, though I wish I better understood how to test this. RPM I haven't had a chance to test yet, but I do have a propeller tachometer from RC planes, so I should be able to test, though I haven't yet.

I LOVE that the controller keeps the system cool and quiet when I'm not doing anything strenuous, but when I am, it ramps up and cools the setup down. I could do it all manually, but for $30 compared to the price of all the other crap I've spent money on in my rig, it was a drop in the bucket. Even Martin from Martinsliquidlab made a comment wondering why more people don't use PWM function since it's enabled in most setups and is so easy to get set up.

If anyone has specific questions about the Rheosmart controllers, I've been using mine for a while, so feel free to ask.

In order for the PWM function to work on the Rheosmart series, you have to use the included PWM extension/splitter with a PWM enabled Fan connected.

I have an AC F12PWM connected to the 4pin extension (should have 2 male ends and a female end, plug the PWM fan into the female) and the Rheosmart slows down my Yate Loons automatically when the F12PWM slows down. Sadly my mobo doesn't allow fine tuning of the PWM profile, I'm trying to play around with SpeedFan to get it just right.

Eventually I'll have the Rheosmart 6 controlling eight GT 2150's on a 480 rad via the PWM (the F12 PWM will be used for the rear exhaust) and about 3 other case fans on manual control.

Here is my review on the 3:

http://martinsliquidlab.org/2011/04/03/sunbeam-rheosmart-3/

Works great for smaller loads of say less than 10 watts per channel, but mine would fail PWM control on a 20+ watt pump load. Not the highest quality, but it's been working for me for a couple of months now.

Keep the loads light and it works great! A perfect combo with the Swiftech MCP 35X PWM pump...I am floored with my setup after putting the two to work to throttle together.

Since your 35x is PWM, that's all you need connected to the Rheosmart in order for it to give the "PWM" feature to all fans should you enable it, correct?

I don't mind leaving my 355 at full throttle, but 10+ fans...those have to be controlled biggrin.gif
