Maximus IV Extreme Auto Tune

Thread Starter
What should I expect from the extreme tune? I orignally started with a P8P67 Deluxe and it had no problem getting to 4.6-4.7, with this board I'm getting 4.6 tops (with BCLK never going higher than 44), right now it's at 4.55. At 4.55 today on a cold boot, I got the message that overclocking failed and to press f1 to enter setup. Upon hitting f1, my screen just stayed blank and had to restart. Had to go through this process twice before it finally booted (never had to enter BIOS setup, it proceeded with the same 4.55 OC). Everything else in BIOS is set to default. This board has been very finicky. What is everybody else getting? The comp runs fine aside from this and I think it is capable of more considering some of the posts I have read with results from others. Sorry for the amateurish question, I'm still learning. Thank you in advance! Hopefully I can learn more on here and help others in the process.

There have been a few people on here experiencing problems with extreme tune. I'm going to tell you what I told them: don't use it. Overclock yourself from scratch. It's quite simple with your board/cpu, heaps of guides and videos out there.

Thanks! I've come to the realization that auto tune only changes BCLK and CPU ratio. Why it causes the system to become unstable is beyond me. I've since OC'ed mine to 4.9 and it is stable. By that I mean it hasn't locked up or crashed with some serious multitasking but nothing extensive yet. It does run a tad warm at idle (47 degrees) though. Up to this point I have been setting CPU ratios by all cores not individually. Also LLC to 75%, PLL to enabled, VRM fixed to 350, VCore PWM to extreme, manual voltage to 1.42 and BCLK to 102. For some reason the system runs at 40 watts more than the auto tune @ 4.6 Ghz. It's now hanging around 160W instead of 120W and at idle previously it was 36-38 degrees. Even before if I OC'ed with AISuite to 4.9 it still remained at 36-38 degrees and 120W. Would the VRM and LLC change cause the system to run 40W more power? Just curious.... it's really no big deal just trying to figure out how everything works.
