[Car Audio] Made an Epic Mistake, Can I Save It? - Page 2

txted Pio for a while today, we decided that I do need new subs but in the meantime while I attempt to find a job i can attempt to bridge it and run them in a 2ohm configuration, i am going to see if i can find time to do this this week, pics to follow of course =)

now what i was looking at to get was a whole new system, still deciding about the head unit (the one i chose was just the better version of the one i have with HD Radio and a USB input) but other than that i am looking at new speakers all around, new subs and a new amp.

this is what i found:

The Subs

The Amp

The Speakers

The Head Unit

FYI there are a lot of lesser known companies that have subs that are better then Boss. Boss is el crapo. The subs you have now are better lol.

Are you going for more SPL, SQ, or a mix of them?

i would honestly wouldn't touch those subs or amp with a 50ft pole. however the alpine speakers and the head unit are fine to me. i made up a list that i like and is fairly budget orientated:

i know there are a lot of other great lesser know brands, but many of them come with a bigger price tag, at this point SQ would be great but i really just want a pair of subs that can keep the bass pounding when i put my top down (yes these are getting stuffed in to a convertible, i literally have 1cf of usable trunk space)

for one, those subs are the same composition as the subs i have, therefore i don't believe they would gain me much of anything and secondly, that amp would melt a pair of those subs...

first of all the amp wouldn't "melt" those subs. it depends where you would set your gain. any one i would think that knows car audio would know that it would be a better option to get a slightly larger amp and turn it down then get one too small and have it maxed out where it would be "clipping" the sub and killing it.

second, those subs are good subs from a reputable manufacture unlike boss. personally i would get a sony over a boss sub any day. if your saying that these subs are made of the same stuff like the boss subs then you might as well say all kicker, jbl, infinity, polk, pioneer, ect. are all the same.

what i meant to say is that those subs are the same physical composition as the subs i have and they are the same wattage and everything, the only difference is that they are 2ohm that is it, these subs might sound good but how do they perform when cranked to max, can they keep pushing? when there is no containment in the car, can they keep pushing? what i am looking for is a high wattage, high excursion sub. yea, it would be nice if it sounded pretty but at this point i just want to be able to still feel the bass when my top is down.

i am sorry but your vid proves it even more, you see the ripple in the sub? yea, that is not supposed to happen...

ok i wasn't trying to attack or anything just wasn't sure where this was going. i have read some reviews where people have this sub and they easily take there power and ask for more. one thing to note is that more power isn't always equals louder ether. having a optimal enclosure makes more impact on how it sounds or how loud it plays. i would use the RE subs in a ported enclosure but from what you said 2 posts up you only have like 1cuft you might not have enough room for even one 12.

no, what i meant by that is after i put in my box for my two 12" Subs (it is the stock, ported, XXX box) i have 1cf of left over space in my trunk that i can put stuff in lol

oo haha well the best thing would be build or find some one that can build a box to the sub that you chose specks so that it will sound the best it can. so find how much room you have that you can/allow for the subs to take and figure what will fit inside of it. because if you have a box that is too small for the sub that sub will be held back and not be able to pound the low notes that you want or if its to large it will make the subs less punchy, and make them have more of a boomy sound/feel to them.

EDIT: another note, it may be in the better interest to only upgrade the front speakers only as they have the biggest sound difference over the rear. i drive a reg cab truck (i know not the same as a car) and i have my rears set so low that they are nearly turned off and i don't notice any loss in quality.

well i really don't have much of an option, the box i have now is kinda stuck in my trunk, the only way it is coming out is with a hack saw, i don't even know how i got the damn thing in there in the first place. that and my trunk is curved, it would take a lot of work to get it right, more work than most people would want to put in to it, my car is a 1994 Chrysler La Baron GTC Convertible, not really worth the effort of a custom box IMO

i was looking for something that was a long throw sub that i could use this box with.
