When the fate of the universe rests in the hands of 1 man. you dont want it to be a guardsmen. Thats all im saying.

you can count on the guardsmen to do 2 things. Hold the line, and **** themselves while doing it.

I agree, I'm sure the mortality rate in the Guard is pretty high. But they do manage to get the job done.

Luckily, when it comes to the IG, the fate of the universe is usually not in the hands of one man, but in the hands of a vast horde of expendables with a bunch of neat toys like Salamanders, Chimeras, Baneblades, Earthshakers etc.

Yarrick... easily one of the biggest badasses in the game. Ripping a Power Klaw off an orc and using it himself is pretty awesome. Plus he shoots lasers out of his eye.

Then you have Shaeffer. Biotics or not, being crushed by a tank and living should put him up there. Even if you go for the Last Chancers in general, they're less squishy and more hardened.

There just aren't enough Space Marines for that to be the case. The Guard probably operates most of the time without any backup from the Astartes or Ordos.

Sorry for taking this thread OT...

I was just about to post about Yarrick. Whenever you're fighting orks always remember that "Yarrick would enjoy this!". Guardsmen != IG.

Well, if i was willing to spend 80 bucks on a game set, i would get this, the Space Marine game looks pretty awesome, but i will just get the 50 dollar (probably wait a few months till it hits 40) normal edition

the books are just so out of touch with the reality of the IP though.

Sure, they make for great books, but they are so over the top, that they arent taken as canon.

I am pretty sure we will see gratuitious amounts of IG getting slaughtered in This.

Depends on which books you're referring to. The Horus heresy series for example ARE the reality of the IP.
